There are four NHL games Monday. Here are some players to target, and to avoid, for your DFS lineup…
GOALIE
Cam Talbot, MIN vs. DET ($28): Yahoo has Talbot listed as the projected starter, but since he's gotten healthy he and Kaapo Kahkonen ($34) have been splitting starts. I'm less enthused about Kahkonen because of the salary, but Talbot at this salary is quite the option. In four starts since returning Talbot has an 1.36 GAA and .955 save percentage. Detroit, meanwhile, ranks 22nd in goals scored.
GOALIE TO AVOID
Marc-Andre Fleury, CHI at WPG ($30): Frankly, I don't get why Fleury is commanding this salary. He has a 2.94 GAA, a .908 save percentage, and he's on the road. Also, while the Jets rank 20th in goals per game, they've averaged 33.5 shots on net per contest. They should keep Fleury busy.
CENTER
Mark Scheifele, WPG vs. CHI ($19): Scheifele has a goal in each of his last three games, giving him 13 in 39 games. He also has 22 assists. I just mentioned Fleury has a 2.94 GAA and .908 save percentage, and why wouldn't I want to target that?
CENTER TO AVOID
Jared McCann, SEA vs. TOR ($17): McCann has 19 goals in 43 games, but with a 17.4 shooting percentage that is a career high and perhaps not sustainable. The Maple Leafs have a 2.71 GAA, and Jack Campbell has a 2.39 GAA and .921 save percentage. Toronto also has the fifth-ranked penalty kill, and 10 of McCann's 30 points have come with the extra man.
WING
Tomas Hertl, SAN vs. EDM ($18): Hertl has 16 points in his last 16 games, eight goals and eight assists. That includes one game with a hat trick and one game with four assists. Since Mike Smith has returned from injury, he's had two games where he's allowed four goals.
Michael Bunting, TOR at SEA ($17): Bunting gets to play on Toronto's top line with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner. It's helping him out, as he has seven goals and four assists in his last 13 games. The Kraken have a 3.46 GAA, largely because both of their goalies have sub-.900 save percentages.
WINGS TO AVOID
Tyler Bertuzzi, DET at MIN ($22): Being on the road against the Wild is the toughest situation any of these teams are facing. Bertuzzi may face Talbot, who has a .955 save percentage in his last four starts. Or, he may face Kahkonen, who has a .924 save percentage.
Robby Fabbri, DET at MIN ($15): Fabbri has 25 points in 47 games, but again both Wild goalies are playing really well right now. Plus, while he has six points on the power play, only two of them have come in his last 21 games.
DEFENSE
Darnell Nurse, EDM at SAN ($17): Nurse had a four-game point streak recently, and I feel like more puck luck could be coming his way. His 3.1 shooting percentage is below his career number of 4.7. James Reimer was playing awful before he got hurt, but since getting healthy he's only been slightly better. In his last six games he has a 3.24 GAA and .914 save percentage.
Matt Dumba, MIN vs. DET ($16): Dumba has four goals this year, but in the past he has four double-digit goal seasons. Plus, he has 16 assists in 40 games. Meanwhile, the Red Wings have a 3.39 GAA.
DEFENSE TO AVOID
Moritz Seider, DET at MIN ($19): Seider has the second-highest salary of any defenseman. He also has a tricky matchup being on the road against the Wild. Even if you want to splash some cash on a defenseman, why not just pay two bucks more for Morgan Rielly against the Kraken?
Mark Giordano, SEA vs. TOR ($17): Giordano has tallied seven of his 19 points on the power play. However, the Maple Leafs have the fifth-ranked penalty kill. This matchup doesn't bode well for the veteran defenseman.
