FanDuel NHL: Wednesday Targets

FanDuel NHL: Wednesday Targets

This article is part of our FanDuel NHL series.

SLATE PREVIEW

This is the last slate of games before the All-Star Break, and we have five games on the docket. There's a ton of talent to go around, but according to FanDuel Sportsbook, there aren't any games with more than a 6.0 O/U.

Despite being on the road, the Flames (-285) are by far the largest favorites tonight. They're one of three road favorites this year, the Wild (-145) against the Blackhawks and the Kings (-140) against the Red Wings being the others. I'll be breaking down some value options while you set your DFS lineups tonight.

All advanced statistics are courtesy of Natural Stat Trick.

GOALIES

Semyon Varlamov, NYI vs. SEA ($8,100): Varlamov has been fantastic at home recently, recording a .952 save percentage and a 1.84 GAA over the last five home contests. Ilya Sorokin started last night, so Varlamov will get the nod Wednesday. The Kraken rank 25th in the league with 2.61 goals per contest this season.

Marc-Andre Fleury, CHI vs. MIN ($7,700): Fleury was up and down in January, but he managed to post a .930 save percentage or better in six of 12 contests. He'll come with some risk as a result. However, the Wild are ranked 20th last month with 2.47 xGF/60 at even strength, providing plenty of upside for a matchup that looks difficult on paper.

Jonathan Quick, LA at DET ($7,400): Quick comes at a major discount despite playing quite well this season. The 36-year-old goaltender has recorded a .916 save percentage and a 2.50 GAA through 11 road games this season. The Red Wings have shown some promise this season, but they aren't a major threat at this point with 2.27 xGF/60 at even strength and 22nd with a 77.0 power-play percentage.

VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS

Clayton Keller, ARI vs. CGY (W - $6,600): In their last six road games, the Flames have given up four or more goals on five occasions. We'll see if they can snap the streak tonight, but they'll likely have backup goaltender Daniel Vladar in goal because Jacob Markstrom played last night. Keller has been excellent this year considering the circumstances, and he's recorded 12 points and 42 shots on net over 13 games since the calendar flipped to 2022.

Tom Wilson, WSH vs. EDM (W - $5,700): Wilson continues to skate on the top line opposite of Alex Ovechkin. Over the last eight games, the controversial winger has posted four goals, two helpers and 24 shots on net. It's hard not to get excited about a matchup against expected starter Mikko Koskinen, who has posted a 3.16 GAA this year.

Adrian Kempe, LA at DET ($5,600): Kempe has already put up a career-high 18 goals through 43 games, including seven goals on 40 shots over the last 14 contests. It's tough to play behind the shaky Detroit blue line, and even starter Alex Nedeljkovic has struggled with a 2.98 GAA at home this season.

Mikael Backlund, CGY at ARI (C - $4,800): Backlund has enjoyed modest production in his age-32 season, including four points and 26 shots on net over the last six games. He's skating on the second line and the second power-play unit, and he'll get the luxury of facing Arizona's 31st-ranked PK (71.9 percent) on Wednesday.

LINE STACKS

Blackhawks vs. Wild

Dylan Strome (W - $5,200), Alex DeBrincat ($7,600), Patrick Kane ($8,300)

Strome got off to a slow start this season but is enjoying his spot on the top line lately, posting four goals and four assists across the last six games. Meanwhile, DeBrincat leads the team and is fifth in the league with 26 goals, and Kane has rung up a point per game so far. The Wild have a sound defensive structure, but it's worth noting that they'll be without defensive-specialist Marcus Foligno (upper body) and blue-line staple Matt Dumba (upper body) tonight.

Oilers at Capitals

Connor McDavid, (C - $10,200), Evander Kane (W - $5,500), Kailer Yamamoto (W - $4,000)

Ilya Samsonov should start in net after Vitek Vanecek (upper body) left Tuesday's game against the Penguins early. Samsonov has underwhelmed this year after entering the season with massive expectations. McDavid is up to his normal tricks this year with 22 goals and 59 points through 40 games, and he'll now have Kane – who has posted at least 20 goals in six straight seasons – on his left side. This line has slate-breaking upside.

DEFENSE

Evan Bouchard, EDM at WSH ($6,200): Bouchard is out-producing blue-line mate Darnell Nurse ($6,500) but comes at a slight discount. Through 41 games, Bouchard has registered nine goals, 15 assists, 100 shots on net and 60 blocked shots. Washington's 17th-ranked PK (79.7 percent) should get him a decent opportunity as the PP1 quarterback, too.

Rasmus Andersson, CGY at ARI ($5,200): Much like Backlund, Andersson maintains intriguing upside tonight. He has produced 21 points – nine with the power play –  through 41 games while averaging nearly two shots on net per game. The Coyotes' putrid defense and PK screams opportunity, especially after an emotional win Tuesday.

Jakob Chychrun, ARI vs. CGY ($4,800): Chychrun is having a major down year after racking up 41 points across 56 games last season. However, he's still playing more than 24 minutes per night while averaging three shots per outing. Similar to my intrigue with Keller, this matchup against Vladar should provide some optimism that Chychrun end up as a value tonight.

Ryan Pulock, NYI vs. SEA ($4,100): Pulock is two seasons removed from recording 35 points across 38 games, but he has struggled with injuries this season. He'll return to the lineup tonight with an appealing matchup against the Kraken, whose PK (75.9 percent) ranks 24th in the league and goaltending (3.52 GAA) ranks 29th).
