2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Avalanche decided to make a bold move early in the season, trading Annunen to the Predators for Scott Wedgewood, a veteran backup. Annunen wasn't able to take the starting job from a struggling Alexandar Georgiev, and that continued to be the case as he operated as backup to Juuse Saros in Nashville following the trade. Overall, Annunen had a 15-15-1 record with a 3.18 GAA and a .883 save percentage, though his numbers were slightly better with the Predators. The Finnish netminder has one more year left on his contract, so another year of backup duties is in order. He won't have a lot of fantasy appeal since he's unlikely to start more than about one game per week. Read Past Outlooks
Gives up four goals
Annunen stopped 20 of 24 shots in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Jets. The fifth goal was an empty-netter with 21 seconds left in the game.
ANALYSIS
Annunen got the start in the second leg of his back-to-back set after Juuse Saros defeated the Blackhawks on Friday. Unfortunately for the Predators, Annunen was unable to replicate the results and was beaten four times en route to another defeat. Annunen has won in just one of his eight appearances this season, going 1-4-1 and allowing three or more goals in all but one of them.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Annunen took an impressive leap in 2023-24, especially when you strip away his first four appearances. Not that they were bad, but what came after was brilliant. Starting Feb. 29, Annunen made 10 appearances, going 7-2-0 with two shutouts and delivering a .942 save percentage. The stats weren't a fluke - in just 14 games overall, he delivered a 13.37 GSAx (goals saved above expected). The next guy on the list was Semyon Varlamov, one of the NHL's best backups. Annunen will be behind Alexandar Georgiev in 2024-25, and he could start 25 games, maybe a few more. Annunen won't replicate the stats from the end of last season, but he will likely give you a lot more than Georgiev in limited time. Dynasty managers take note - he'll be the starter in a few years. This season, Annunen will help you in dailies and when the starter struggles.
