Yahoo DFS Golf: The RSM Classic

This article is part of our Yahoo PGA DFS Picks series.

The RSM Classic

Saint Simons Island, Georgia
Sea Island Golf Club
Seaside Course - Par 70 - 7,005 yards
Plantation Course - Par 72 - 7,060 yards
Field - 156 entrants
Purse - $6.6M

The Preview

The RSM Classic hosted by Sea Island Golf Club serves as the final stop along the PGA Tour's fall series before a brief winter break ensues, but a lackluster field will be in attendance after a lengthy stretch of international events occupied the recent schedule. Meanwhile on the European Tour, a more intriguing collection of talent gathers for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, headlined by superstars like Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm. Nonetheless, a full 156-entrant field in Georgia will duke it out for the usual two-year exemption and Masters invite that accompanies almost any other win on Tour. Fifty-four of 72 holes will be played on Sea Island's Seaside Course, but each player will also spend one of the first two rounds on the par-72 Plantation Course prior to the 36-hole cut. As for the weather, precipitation chances are minimal and the wind should remain tame until at least Sunday morning.

Cream of the Crop

Billy Horschel - $45

Horschel hit 75 percent of the greens in regulation last week at the Mayakoba Golf Classic en route to his third top-10 result since a T4 at the European Tour's BMW PGA Championship. He's tallied 20 birdies in each of his last three starts and heads to the Sea Island Resort behind only Webb Simpson in terms of betting odds. Horschel tied for runner-up honors here during his most recent appearance in 2016.

Charles Howell III - $43

The defending champion at the RSM Classic has racked up four top-10s throughout nine showings at the event, so Howell figures to be a popular selection given he's already notched a quartet of top-25s on the PGA Tour during the fall series alone this season. The 40-year-old played his final 36 holes in a collective nine-under-par last week at El Camaleon GC, carding just two total bogeys or worse during this closing stretch as well. Howell ranks 36th on Tour in SG: Putting and 16th in total birdies.

Glue Guys

Harris English - $36

The Seaside Course hasn't been quite as kind to English over the past three years with finishes of T46-MC-MC dating back to 2016, but he's currently one of the hottest players on Tour with four top-6s in five starts since The Greenbrier. He led the field in birdies at the Mayakoba Golf Classic with 24 tweeters in 72 holes, but he also added an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole during Round 3 to lend an even greater boost to his daily fantasy owners. On the season, English ranks eighth in SG: Off-the-Tee, eighth in GIR percentage, 13th in birdie average and sixth in par-4 scoring average.

Dylan Frittelli - $34

Speaking of the coveted eagle bonus, Frittelli has holed at least one eagle during five of the six events he's played to begin the 2019-20 campaign. The South African ranks top-10 on Tour in SG: Approach, SG: Around-the-Green and SG: Tee-to-Green, resulting in four total top-25s and top-10s at the Sanderson Farms Championship and Safeway Open. He tied for 11th last week at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, firing a bogey-free 65 in Round 4 to pick up steam as he heads to Saint Simons Island.

Brian Gay - $32

Gay added his second top-10 of the season two weeks ago with a T3 at the Bermuda Championship while the WGC-HSBC Champions fostered a majority of the golf world's attention, but he followed that up with another respectable top-15 at the Mayakoba where he aced the par-3 10th in Round 4. He owns top-25s in three of his last four trips to the Sea Island Resort, two of which included top-4 finishes. He's 17th in birdie average, 27th in SG: Putting and 22nd in scrambling.

Bargain Bin

Brendon Todd - $30

Back-to-back wins at the Bermuda Championship and Mayakoba Golf Classic have Todd hunting for a turkey prior to Thanksgiving, as he'll strive for a third consecutive victory this week at the RSM Classic. He's obviously overtaken the top spot in the FedEx Cup standings, but he also ranks 11th in proximity from over 200 yards, first in scrambling from under 10 yards, 20th in putting from 15-20 feet and third in final-round scoring. Todd has made the cut in four straight attempts at Sea Island Golf Club, but he's now back inside of the OWGR's top-100 for the first time since February of 2016.

Adam Long - $23

Long continues to flirt with joining the top-100 in the OWGR for the first time in his career, and he's even closer after tying for second last week in Mexico where he carded only five total bogeys while average six birdies per round. He hit over 70 percent of the greens in regulation and also ranked T4 in putts per GIR at El Camaleon GC. Long is now up to 18th in SG: Approach, 18th in proximity and 18th in par-4 birdie or better percentage.
