Tournament Preview

The European Tour is in South Africa this week for the Nedbank Golf Challenge with host Gary Player.  The Rolex Series tournament is a no-cut event contested at Gary Player Country Club. The at altitude tree-lined course consists of narrow fairways and small greens protected by bunkers and water.  Past winners have been ball strikers with a strong approach and good off the tee. There is plenty of course history to pull from, along with current and season-long form.

Key Stats to Winning at Gary Player CC

SG: Approach
SG: Tee To Green

Past Champions

2017 - Branden Grace
2016 - Alex Noren
2015 - Marc Leishman
2014 - Danny Willett

DraftKings Picks

Louis Oosthuizen - $11,600 (8/1)

I have shied away from the high-priced favorites recently, but this week I love the top spot.  Oosthuizen arrives in good form, finishing solo third at WGC-HSBC Champions. The local has enjoyed success at this course in recent years.  He was solo third last year, T8 in 2017 and solo ninth in 2016. He is a great ball striker and should have a great week.

Lee Westwood - $8,900 (33/1)

The defending champion has had another good season.  He's had a handful of top 10s and a T4 at the Open Championship, but no wins this year.  That could change this week, on a course that he loves. Westwood should like his chances after finishing T10 last week at Turkish Airlines Open.  He is one of the best on tour in SG: approach, ranking fourth. A good putting week will be another high finish or win.

Guido Migliozzi - $7,000 (80/1)

Migliozzi has two wins this season and arrives following a T14 in Portugal and T10 in Turkey.  This will be the young Italians first time at Nedbank Golf Challenge, but he has proven he can post a low score anywhere.  He ranks 14th on tour in SG: off the tee and is seventh in SG: approach. He seems to catch fire for at least one round and go very low, so the no cut should be in his favor.

Jason Scrivener - 6,600 (80/1)

At the low end of the price tier, I am going to go with another ball striker.  Scrivener has put together a good string of tournaments in the last few weeks, ending with a T21 last week in Turkey.  He ranks sixth on tour in SG: approach and 11th in SG: tee to green. Scrivener finished T16 last year at Nedbank Golf Challenge.
