Tournament Preview

There is a new venue this year for the KLM Open, The International.  It is an exposed and undulating course, where the elements will be its greatest defense.  The weather looks calm for the week, the strongest winds coming Thursday, reaching 12 mph.  The fairways are wide and the greens are large, but water is everywhere. Since there isn't any course history, recent form and good ball striking will guide the picks.  The field is stronger than usual this year, with Patrick Reed being the highest priced golfer on DraftKings.

Key Stats to Winning at The International

Past Champions

2018 - Ashun Wu
2017 - Romain Wattel
2016 - Joost Luiten
2015 - Thomas Pieters
2014 - Paul Casey

DraftKings Picks

Joost Luiten - $9,800 (16/1)

The home favorite is an easy choice at the top.  He has won this event twice and seems to be rounding into form recently.  His last finish was T23 at Omega European Masters, and he was T29 at Scandinavian Invitation before that.  The last seven professional rounds of golf for him have been in the 60s. Regardless of the new venue, I like Luiten to once again finish strong in the Netherlands.  He is extremely accurate and just needs a decent putting day.

Gavin Kyle Green - $9,000 (30/1)

I have to go back to Green at $9,000.  It is a jump in price for him, but he earned it with another strong finish at Omega European Masters.  He keeps hanging around the top of leaderboards and looks like he will win soon. His odds down to 30/1 this week show that Las Vegas thinks so too.  All aspects of his game are strong at the moment.

Jamie Donaldson - $7,800 (80/1)

Donaldson has flashed some good form in his last four tournaments.  He missed the cut on the number at Czech Masters, but the other three were encouraging.  His highest finish being T5 at the Scandinavian Invitation. He is precise off the tee, ranking 25th on tour in driving accuracy.  Donaldson's approach game is back as well, ranking 24th in SG: approach. If his putter shows up, this could be a great week for him.

James Morrison - $6,900 (200/1)

This appears to be a good bounce-back spot for Morrison after missing the cut last week at the  European Open.  He had a good run leading up to last week, with three finishes at T30 or better. He is ranked 15th on tour in driving accuracy and is 87th in SG: putting.  He's enjoyed success at this tournament in the past and could be worth it at only $6,900.
