Mumbai Indians is one of the most successful franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history as they've won the title three times, joint-most alongside Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The franchise is owned by one of the India's biggest business groups – the Reliance Industries – and was the most expensive team bought in the inaugural bidding process in 2008. After a slow start, Mumbai picked up pace from the third edition where they finished as a runners up and finally won their first title in 2013. In the 2018 edition, Mumbai had a disappointing time as they missed out on a place in the playoffs as they finished on the fifth spot after managing to win six out of 14 matches played.
The team is led by India's veteran explosive batsman Rohit Sharma, who will have the coaching assistance of former Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene. In the batting department, the team will be heavily relying on captain Sharma to lead from the front and he will have the helping hand of South Africa's wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock, West Indies' Evin Lewis and local talent like veteran Yuvraj Singh, Aditya Tare and Suryakumar Yadav.
On the bowling front, the team will have the services of India's Jasprit Bumrah, Australia's Jason Behrendorff, veteran Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga and New Zealand's duo of Adam Milne and Mitchell McClenaghan to provide timely breakthroughs. Mumbai also have a lot of all-round options in the squad with the likes of Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Ben Cutting and young Anukul Roy, all of whom can contribute with bat and ball which can bring a lot of stability in the playing eleven.
