Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are the defending champions going in to this year's Indian Premier League (IPL), which will begin on March 23. Chennai is by far the most consistent and successful franchise in the IPL history with three wins, joint-most alongside Mumbai Indians but having played two seasons less. The team's consistency can be understood by the fact that from the beginning, there is not a single season when CSK didn't qualify for the playoffs, whereas the team finished runners up thrice as well. In the 2018 edition, CSK came back after a gap of two years and won the title by beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final by eight wickets.

Former West Indies all-rounder Bravo holds the record for most wickets (32) for the franchise in a single season which he achieved in the 2013 edition, whereas veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin holds the record for most wickets (120) for CSK in the IPL history.
