DraftKings College Football: Bowl Season Kicks Off

DraftKings College Football: Bowl Season Kicks Off

This article is part of our DraftKings College Football series.

This week's Saturday slate on DraftKings is obviously a tiny one since there are only five bowl games this weekend. Since the number of variables is much smaller than those of past weeks, I'm going to post positional value rankings to hopefully give a more specific picture of how I view the slate. I'll also throw in a couple quick fade mentions.

As always, feel free to ask questions in the comment section, and thanks for reading!

QUARTERBACK

1. Terrance Broadway - Louisiana-Lafayette vs. Nevada ($5,800)

Broadway's upside is limited since Elijah McGuire and Alonzo Harris produce so much of Lafayette's offense, but his running ability (646 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games) gives him a nice floor against a Nevada defense allowing 4.8 yards per carry.

2. Kale Pearson - Air Force vs. Western Michigan ($6,400)

Pearson is returning from an ankle injury that caused him to miss Air Force's regular-season finale, but the senior was productive before the injury, posting efficient numbers both as a runner and passer. He's a solid bet for 20-to-25 DraftKings points.

3. Cody Fajardo - Nevada vs. Louisiana-Lafayette ($8,300)

Fajardo might be the most owned quarterback in this slate, but it's worth mentioning that Lafayette contained other dual-threat quarterbacks like Fredi Knighten, Brandon Bridge and Grant Hedrick on the ground. Fajardo will need to make an impact as a passer.

4. Travis Wilson - Utah vs. Colorado State ($5,600)
5. Kent Myers - Utah State vs. UTEP ($5,900)

RUNNING BACK

1. Elijah McGuire - Louisiana-Lafayette vs. Nevada ($8,200)

McGuire is an absolute beast, somehow accumulating 2,028 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns on just 253 carries. That's 8.0 yards per carry and a touchdown every 11.5 carries! He's also a brilliant receiver, boasting 62 catches for 798 yards and five touchdowns in two years. Nevada is allowing 4.8 yards per carry.

2. Devontae Booker - Utah vs. Colorado State ($8,400)

Booker is expensive, but I like his chances of justifying his price. He's extremely active as a pass catcher (26 catches in his last four games), and he has excellent rushing skills (1,350 yards and nine touchdowns in 12 games). Colorado State has been vulnerable against the run (4.7 YPC, 22 touchdowns in 12 games).

3. Alonzo Harris - Louisiana-Lafayette vs. Nevada ($5,100)

Harris offers nothing as a receiver and is nowhere near as good of a runner as McGuire, but Lafayette reliably feeds him nonetheless, and he's the more established short-yardage runner between the two, giving him superior touchdown potential. He's cheap for a player with 45 career touchdowns.

4. Travis Greene - Bowling Green vs. South Alabama ($6,000)

Greene loses some carries to Fred Coppet, but he's affordable given that he has 11 touchdowns in his 10 healthy games. South Alabama has been vulnerable against the run.

5. Jarvion Franklin - Western Michigan vs. Air Force ($8,800)

Franklin is a talented player with a huge workload, but I'm posting him this low because of his price and the fact that Air Force has contained some great runners this year.

6. Don Jackson - Nevada vs. Louisiana-Lafayette ($5,300)
7. Kendall Houston - South Alabama vs. Bowling Green ($3,800)
8. Terrance Timmons - South Alabama vs. Bowling Green ($4,100)
9. Fred Coppet - Bowling Green vs. South Alabama ($4,000)

WIDE RECEIVER

1. Corey Davis - Western Michigan vs. Air Force ($8,600)

The brother of Central Michigan great Titus Davis, Corey might be even better. With 70 catches for 1,232 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 games, Davis is clearly an top-shelf red-zone threat, and he shows high usage between the 20s, too.

2. Daniel Braverman - Western Michigan vs. Air Force ($5,700)

Braverman isn't the talent that Davis is, yet he's a formidable player in his own right and is far cheaper despite posting a strong box score of 79 catches for 912 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games. With DraftKings' PPR scoring, Braverman stands out as a bargain.

3. Shavarez Smith - South Alabama vs. Bowling Green ($4,400)

Smith seemingly has a low floor since South Alabama doesn't throw for much yardage or many touchdowns, but he owns nearly a third of South Alabama's receiving yardage and half of its receiving touchdowns, making him a reliable source of production at whatever rate the Jaguars' passing game produces. Bowling Green allowed 24 receiving touchdowns in 13 games.

4. Jerico Richardson - Nevada vs. Louisiana-Lafayette ($3,900)

You probably remember Richardson for posting 13 catches for 177 yards in Week 1 and disappearing immediately afterward, but he's a worthwhile gamble at this price. Lafayette has shown the ability to stop running QBs, so Nevada might need to call on Richardson more than usual.

5. Kaelin Clay - Utah vs. Colorado State ($4,500)

Despite his embarrassing self-inflicted lost fumble against Oregon at the Ducks' defensive goal line, Clay has seen his role grow in the season's second half. The speedy playmaker caught 10 passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns against California in Utah's season finale, and he's cheap at this price. He basically replaced Dres Anderson after the star wideout suffered a season-ending knee injury.

6. Kenneth Scott - Utah vs. Colorado State ($3,800)
7. Richy Turner - Nevada vs. Louisiana-Lafayette ($3,400)
8. Jalen Robinette - Air Force vs. Western Michigan ($4,100)
9. Rashard Higgins - Colorado State vs. Utah ($10,800)

Higgins is an awesome, awesome player and an early favorite for the 2015 Biletnikoff Award, but he has a tough matchup and is prohibitively expensive. I'm not confident that he'll match the numbers of Corey Davis, yet he's $2,200 more expensive.

TIGHT END

1. Westlee Tonga - Utah vs. Colorado State ($3,400)

Tonga is mostly affordable at this price, and he has a good chance of justifying it after totaling 11 catches for 193 yards and three touchdowns in his last four games.

2. Jarred Gipson - Nevada vs. Louisiana-Lafayette ($2,800)
3. Garrett Griffin - Air Force vs. Western Michigan ($2,900)
4. Steven Walker - Colorado State vs. Utah ($2,700)
