2025 Fantasy Outlook
A mid-season ankle injury and a significant shoulder injury in March cut Murphy's fourth season in the NBA short, but it was his best. He took on a higher usage rate than ever before, showing off his potential to be an efficient, two-way playmaker in a leading role. In his 35.0 minutes per game, the forward averaged 21.2 points and 3.0 threes on 45/36/89 shooting, 5.1 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.7 blocks. The biggest developments in his game were passing and self-creation, especially in terms of driving to the basket off the dribble and drawing defenders with his dunk-contest athleticism. That sort of usage could still be available for Murphy again this season. Brandon Ingram was traded to the Raptors and Dejounte Murray is recovering from a torn Achilles. Jordan Poole was added in the swap that sent CJ McCollum to the Wizards as the Pels shook up their roster. How much can we trust Zion Williamson to stay healthy? This team lacks depth in trustworthy offensive talent. There will be plenty of situations where Murphy has to drive playmaking, whether that be in the flow of a normal game or due to injuries to teammates. Maybe the situation is still more murky than optimists would like, but Murphy finished in the top-40 last season in per-game production in 8-category formats. Read Past Outlooks
Logs 21 points in narrow loss
Murphy accumulated 21 points (8-16 FG, 5-10 3Pt), six rebounds and two assists across 38 minutes during Monday's 130-125 loss to the Knicks.
ANALYSIS
Murphy was his usual productive self, and Zion Williamson's return to the starting lineup didn't seem to diminish the fifth-year pro's opportunities. Murphy has been a fixture with the first unit, while injuries have befell several of his colleagues in the first two months of the season. He's enjoyed a productive final month of 2025 with averages of 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.5 steals over 13 games in December.

Murphy alternated between the starting unit and the bench in 2023-24. While his efficiency decreased, the third-year wing delivered a career-best season statistically. Across 57 regular-season appearances and 23 starts, Murphy averaged career-high marks in points (14.8), rebounds (4.9) and assists (2.2) per game while also putting up a combined 1.4 steals-plus-blocks in 29.6 minutes. That kind of production is solid across any fantasy format, and Murphy should be a reliable contributor once again. Even though there's no clear path to the starting lineup unless one of CJ McCollum, Brandon Ingram or Dejounte Murray get injured, Murphy should log enough minutes to make his presence count off the bench. Murphy is particularly valuable in category-based leagues, as he doesn't have any glaring weaknesses. He can contribute across the five major categories while shooting the ball at an accurate clip, including from three, where he's made at least 38 percent of his attempts in his three years in the league. Fantasy managers would be wise to wait until the second half of their drafts to target Murphy, but he's a player who could deliver excellent value related to his APD if he continues the upward trajectory he's shown in the last two seasons.

Another suitor emerges
The Trail Blazers could pursue Murphy ahead of the trade deadline, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Scotto notes that several league executives expect the Trail Blazers to become buyers at the deadline, and Murphy is apparently at the top of their list. The swingman certainly won't be cheap, and Scotto says it will likely take a package similar to the one Memphis got for Desmond Bane if any deal comes to fruition.
