76ers Control Game To Secure Win Over Hornets
The Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Charlotte Hornets, 109-98, at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday evening.

The 76ers (37-30) have been struggling of late, but that shouldn’t surprise anyone, given the absences they’ve been dealing with. Regardless, the team moved seven games above the .500 mark with a composed win over the Hornets (17-51). The Hornets were constantly fighting back, but in the end, the 76ers closed the game out when it mattered the most. Philadelphia jumped to a 27-24 lead in the first quarter, and by the time the second quarter ended, the differential was six points. The 76ers didn’t step off the gas in the second half and won the final two quarters, 26-24 and 30-27, to close the game out. With the win, the 76ers moved to 20-15 at home. Meanwhile, the Hornets fell to 8-27 on the road.

Tyrese Maxey led the way for the Sixers with 30 points, four assists and three rebounds. Kelly Oubre Jr. had a strong showing as well, finishing with 22 points. No other Philadelphia starter posted 10 or more points. The bench stepped up in a big way, though. Buddy Hield had 14 points off the bench, while Paul Reed came close to a double-double of 11 points and eight rebounds. The Sixers shot 44.4 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from deep.

Tre Mann had 21 points to lead the Hornets, and he also added eight rebounds with six assists. Vasilije Micic and Nick Richards each had 11 points. Richards also posted 11 rebounds, while Micic dished out four assists. Miles Bridges recorded 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists. Brandon Miller had six points across 15 minutes before being ejected. The Hornets shot 45.1 percent from the field and 32.3 percent from beyond the arc.
