Cavaliers Outlast Pelicans In Battle Of Contenders
The Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the New Orleans Pelicans, 113-103, at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse on Monday.

The Cavaliers (28-17) are sitting 11 games above .500 and continue to play like a contender even when tough opponents are in front of them, and they managed to get past a Pelicans (26-18) team that was without their two best players in Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram. It was a tight game early on, however, as the Pelicans secured a 25-24 lead in the first quarter only to increase it a bit more after the second quarter, 25-23. The third quarter ended with a 31-31 tie and New Orleans held a slim three-point advantage heading into the final frame, but that’s when the Cavaliers woke up and turned things around. Cleveland won the final 12 minutes by a 35-22 score, and that would be enough to secure a huge win in front of a sellout crowd at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. With the win, the Cavaliers moved to 19-4 at home while the Pelicans fell to 9-13 on the road.

Darius Garland led the way for the Cavaliers and finished with a 30-point, 11-assist double-double, while Jarrett Allen also had a double-double after notching 24 points and 11 rebounds to go along with five assists and two steals. Evan Mobley delivered 19 points and eight rebounds, and Isaac Okoro notched 11 points with four boards and two steals. Donovan Mitchell played 22 minutes and finished with 11 points.

CJ McCollum finished with 25 points and four assists to lead the Pelicans, while Jonas Valanciunas delivered 22 points and 13 rebounds across 35 minutes. Naji Marshall posted 14 points, three rebounds and three assists, while Trey Murphy III ended with 17 points. Jose Alvarado added 10 points across 34 minutes off the bench.
