Closer Watch

Orioles - Entering Friday's game in the bottom of the ninth with a two-run cushion, Zach Britton seemed poised to nab his 10th save of the season, and ninth since assuming closing duties on May 22. However, his opponent, the Yankees, didn't roll over after logging two quick outs. Mark Teixeira induced an innocuous walk to spur the comeback, which was soon followed by Brian McCann's RBI single and the shot heard around Yankee Stadium, Carlos Beltran's three-run blast. The home run was only the second surrendered by Britton this season, but his ledger remains a sparkling 9-for-11 in terms of save opportunities. Since landing his current gig, he's posted a 14:5 K:BB in 14.2 innings, versus 15:8 in his initial 23.2 frames, solidifying his place in Baltimore's bullpen hierarchy. Although a late-inning chance didn't arrive Saturday, any close contest for the foreseeable future should be handled by Britton due to all the goodwill built up during the past month.

Recommended Pickup

Adam Eaton, OF, CWS - The White Sox reside in the cellar of the American League Central, but not on account of Eaton, who's tallied hits in 14 of the last 15 contests, including the last eight. The 21-for-61 (.344) stretch includes four triples, three doubles, six RBI, eight runs scored, and an 8:12 BB:K. On a maddening note, his well-discussed speed hasn't translated to the stolen-base department, as he swiped just one bag during that span, reflecting his career marks (13 steals in 23 attempts across 561 at-bats). On Sunday, he'll tangle with Twins righty Phil Hughes, against whom Eaton recorded his first three-bagger of the year and a walk in three plate appearances on Apr. 3. The sample size is admittedly brief, but Eaton's recent success is difficult to ignore, as is his $5,041 tab on DraftStreet.com.
