Closer Watch

Tampa Bay Rays - Kevin Jepsen picked up his second save of the season Thursday, walking one while striking out two others in the outing to post a scoreless ninth inning. The club's normal closer, Brad Boxberger, was unavailable after throwing 32 pitches as part of a blown save the night before. While it's interesting to note that the team turned to Jepsen over Jake McGee, Boxberger will likely remain the Rays' closer barring an injury.

New York Mets - Jeurys Familia tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless ball Friday to record his 16th save of the campaign. After throwing 33 pitches Thursday, he was unavailable out of the bullpen Friday in case of a save situation. Regardless, the 25-year-old reliever has thrived in the role this season, converting 16-of-17 opportunities. Despite the anticipated return of Bobby Parnell in the near future, Familia has likely done more than enough to continue in the closer role.

Recommended Pickup

Joe Ross, SP, WAS - Ross will be called up Saturday to pitch for the Nationals, and given his numbers at Double-A this season (2.81 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 54 strikeouts over 51.1 innings), the young hurler could be a strong option against a Cubs team that strikes out at a high rate. While Doug Fister is expected to rejoin the team within the next couple weeks, Ross could potentially receive a couple starts, with the potential to rack up some strikeouts and pick up a couple wins behind a good Nationals lineup.

Other Recent Recommendations:Joey Butler, Lance McCullers, Mike Foltynewicz, Joey Gallo
