FanDuel MLB: Sunday Value Plays

FanDuel MLB: Sunday Value Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

PITCHER

Danny Salazar, CLE at CWS ($10,100): It hasn't quite all come together in a start for Salazar yet, but his underlying statistics are spectacular. The punchout artist has improved each outing and sports a 2.10 FIP and 35.5 strikeout percentage for the season. Additionally, this is a cushy matchup with the White Sox sporting a disastrous .256 wOBA and 25.1 strikeout percentage against right-handed hurlers.

CATCHER

Stephen Vogt, OAK vs. SEA ($2,700): Dating back to 2015, Vogt has posted a respectable .337 wOBA against right-handed hurlers, while opposing starter Yovani Gallardo has surrendered a .346 mark to lefty bats. Hitting in the heart of the order should also help Vogt, as Gallardo has allowed 11 runs and 24 hits through 16 innings this season.

FIRST BASE

Edwin Encarnacion, CLE at CWS ($3,600):Derek Holland allowed two home runs last time out and sports a 4.87 FIP over the past three years. He's also allowed a .350 wOBA to right-handed hitters during the span. Encarnacion's price reflects his early-season struggles, which ignores his recent uptick in production and the .372 wOBA he's posted against southpaws since 2015.

SECOND BASE

Ryan Schimpf, SD vs. MIA ($2,800): A boom-or-bust flier, Schimpf boasts a .298 ISO and .365 wOBA against right-handed pitchers since entering the league. He gets a decent matchup Sunday, as Tom Koehler has allowed five home runs through three starts this season while allowing a .348 wOBA to left-handed hitters dating back to last year.

THIRD BASE

Jose Ramirez, CLE at CWS ($4,100): Off to a scorching start (.972 OPS with 17 RBI), Ramirez also has a strong track record against southpaws. He's posted a .352 wOBA against lefties dating back to last year, and as noted, there is nothing scary about the matchup against Derek Holland.

SHORTSTOP

Brandon Crawford, SFG at COL ($3,900): This salary isn't prohibitive enough to ignore Crawford at Coors Field. The veteran shortstop has posted a respectable .334 wOBA against right-handed pitchers dating back to 2015, and he faces the reeling Kyle Freeland, who allowed eight runs through 14.2 innings with a 4.53 FIP.

OUTFIELD

Charlie Blackmon, COL vs. SFG ($4,300): Dating back to last season, Blackmon has a .970 OPS, .281 ISO and .405 wOBA against right-handed pitchers. Jeff Samardzija isn't a daunting matchup, either, as he has allowed a .350 wOBA to left-handed hitters since 2015.

Kyle Schwarber, CHC at CIN ($3,600): Soft-tossing Bronson Arroyo sports a .150 BABIP against left-handed hitters and has held them to a .265 wOBA despite a 5.30 FIP this season. There is negative regression ahead, and Schwarber has a career .901 OPS and .387 wOBA against right-handed hurlers. Leading off in a favorable hitting environment helps, too.

Brandon Guyer, CLE at CWS ($2,300): A source of cap relief to stack against Derek Holland, Guyer has been an elite hitter against lefties with a .416 wOBA dating back to last season. He hits down the order, but that's already baked into his salary, and the Cleveland lineup is deep enough to give him opportunities to score and drive in runs.
