After giving a preview of what he could do over the 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns, Guenther took a big step forward last season, supplying 27 goals and 60 points across 70 appearances with Utah. Still just 22 years old, we probably haven’t seen the best that he can offer. It helps that the Mammoth are likely to have him play the vast majority of the campaign alongside another rising star in Logan Cooley and the team’s best forward, Clayton Keller. That trio was already good last campaign, and they should make Utah fans very happy this year. In particular, Guenther might cross the 30-goal and 70-point marks for the first time given his offensive upside. Read Past Outlooks

Guenther was on track to becoming an important piece of Team USA alongside Utah teammate Logan Cooley. Instead, an injury will force him to miss the World Championship in Sweden this coming May. The good news is signs point to this injury not being long term, so concern level for his future moving forward should be low. The 22-year-old Guenther scored 27 goals and added 33 assists this past season, both career-best marks.

Guenther split time between the AHL and NHL last campaign, performing well at both levels. He scored 10 goals and 28 points in 29 regular-season games with Tucson and registered 18 tallies and 17 assists in 45 contests for Arizona. As a member of the Coyotes, he also had 121 shots on net and tied for the team lead with four game-winning goals. Additionally, Guenther tied for fourth with 13 power-play points and second with two shorthanded points. The 21-year-old forward will likely cement his place in the lineup with Utah during the upcoming campaign. His scoring ability should secure him a spot in the top six and on the first power-play unit. Assuming he spends the entire season in the NHL, Guenther will face challenges maintaining a 65-point pace in 2024-25, but hovering around or just over the 50-point plateau is a reasonable expectation.
In a world where the Coyotes were more competitive in 2022-23, Guenther likely would have spent the whole season in Arizona. His 15 points in 33 games as a rookie were perfectly fine contributions for a 19-year-old winger taking on middle-six minutes out of the gate. Instead, the Coyotes opted to prevent him from getting a year closer to unrestricted free agency by letting him go to the World Junior Championship and then continue in the junior ranks with WHL Seattle. It may prove to be beneficial experience for Guenther, who had 57 points over 39 games between the regular season and playoffs, helping the Thunderbirds to their second league title. Guenther should be an NHL regular with power-play time in 2023-24. Dynasty managers will already have him secured, but if the Coyotes step up as a team, Guenther could be an interesting late-round sleeper in redraft formats.

Guenther and Utah are nearing an eight-year contract extension that would come with an annual cap hit a bit above $7 million, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
Guenther is entering the final season of his entry-level contract. Utah HC would be taking a big risk if they ink Guenther to a contract worth over $56 million after he's participated in just 78 career NHL games, but there is logic to this decision. Guenther was taken with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, and he's been moving steadily toward reaching his potential. He had 18 goals and 35 points in 45 contests with the Coyotes in 2023-24 as well as 10 goals and 28 points in 29 regular-season AHL outings. If he continues to develop as Utah hopes, then Guenther's anticipated contract would look like a great value signing in a few years.
