FanDuel MLB: Sunday Playoff Plays

FanDuel MLB: Sunday Playoff Plays

This article is part of our FanDuel MLB series.

Sunday's single-game contest looks to set you up to go heavily on Astros' bats, who enjoy facing lefties while BoSox starter David Price has struggled throughout his postseason career (0-9, 6.03 ERA). That equally obviously sets up Boston bats as contrarian options in a difficult matchup against Gerrit Cole.

MVP

Alex Bregman, HOU at BOS ($9,500): Bregman led the Astros against left-handed pitching during the regular season, posting a .409 wOBA, 166 wRC+ and .253 ISO. He's homered in seven at bats against David Price, has averaged 24.9 points through four postseason games, and put up 18.4 on Saturday without collecting a hit.

Mookie Betts, BOS vs. HOU ($9,000): Gambling at MVP is for GPP players, but it seems prudent to go straight chalk here and minimize risk. He posted a .437 wOBA, 176 wRC+ and .271 ISO against righties during the regular season, and is 5-for-8 in his career against Cole.

INFIELD

Carlos Correa, HOU at BOS ($7,500): Correa could be coming around from his season-long funk. An incredibly small sample size, but he's he's got two hits, two runs, four walks and four RBI in his last two games. We can't just ignore Correa's struggles in 2018, but just a year ago he posted a .445 wOBA, 187 wRC+ and .217 ISO against lefties.

Yuli Gurriel, HOU at BOS ($6,500): I targeted Gurriel Saturday for similar reasons, and it paid off with a late long ball. He's one of many Astros that feast on lefties, and has impressed with a .382 wOBA, 147 wRC+ and .188 ISO. His spot at cleanup gives him clear run-producing potential at a discount.

Brian McCann, HOU at BOS ($4,000): McCann has only made one postseason start in the Astros' four games, but the matchup looks like he could see a start Sunday. And for that exact reason, he's worth a cheap flyer in GPP formats. McCann is 11-of-32 in his career against David Price, with three homers and eight RBI. That's the most at-bats and hits from any Astro against Price. Boston's Brock Holt ($4,500) and his hot ALDS bat can be your pivot if McCann remains benched, as Martin Maldonado ($4,000) is traditionally behind the dish for Gerrit Cole's starts.

OUTFIELD

Andrew Benintendi, BOS vs. HOU ($7,000): Hitting between Betts and J.D. Martinez has allowed Benintendi to be a consistent option all season long. His .376 wOBA against righties is very stable, and he could be a bit overlooked with only two hits through four postseason games. And again, you're forced to diversify a bit.

Josh Reddick, HOU at BOS ($6,000): Usually a platoon option, Reddick has fared well against lefties this year, posting a .357 wOBA with only a 16.1 percent fan rate. It's always about the power with Reddick, as his .239 ISO suggests, but frankly there just aren't many cheap outfield options.

Jackie Bradley, BOS vs. HOU ($5,000): If nothing else, we know Bradley will be in the lineup Sunday. That's not inspiring, but he's managed two hits, three runs, three walks and a steal through four games. That plays decently at this price, but a clear trend has emerged here where paying down at infield spots and paying up for outfielders looks like the preferred strategy.
