Rookie Macklin Celebrini had the spotlight on him in San Jose last season, but he wasn’t the only rookie who made his mark for the Sharks. Smith had a productive first campaign with 18 goals and 45 points across 74 appearances. He got off to a slow start with six goals and 15 points across his first 40 appearances. That stretch included some games where he was used sparingly in addition to a smattering of healthy scratches. However, he found his groove from Jan. 20 onward, collecting 12 goals and 30 points in 34 outings while averaging 17:40 of ice time. Given that strong finish, he could be in for a significant jump in points this season, especially if he spends a good chunk of his ice time on a line with Celebrini, though the Sharks may opt to have both young players work on their own lines.
