Pitching Overview
Owners will be reluctant to turn to Blake Snell ($10,300) in Boston, so those looking to spend big on a pitcher will likely go for Jake Odorizzi ($9,800) against a Tigers offense that's neck and neck with the Marlins for worst in the league.
Pablo Lopez ($8,100) could be a sneaky-good play at home against the Braves. The righty has excelled at pitcher-friendly Marlins Park, holding opponents to six runs in 29.1 innings for a 1.84 ERA while posting a 31:5 K:BB.
Noah Syndergaard's ($8,400) 3.60 FIP suggests his 4.83 ERA is due to come down, and he's proven a good source of strikeouts with a 23.6 percent season rate and 26.6 percent career rate. Colorado's offense has dropped significantly to right around league average on the road, so Thor could start to close the gap between his ERA and FIP at pitcher-friendly Citi Field here.
Value Plays/Chalk
In addition to Astros, Brewers and Diamondbacks, certain individuals stand out as hitters to target. The Royals haven't had much to cheer about this season, but left-handed slugger Alex Gordon's ($3,400) having a solid season with a .377 wOBA against righties. That number figures to climb even further against White Sox right-hander Reynaldo Lopez, who enters with a 6.62 ERA and 6.09 FIP.
With Masahiro Tanaka on paternity leave, the Yankees are going with a bullpen day in Cleveland, starting with Chad Green and his 9.16 ERA. Switch-hitting shortstop Francisco Lindor ($4,100) has posted a wOBA over .350 against pitchers from both the left and right side, so he's ready for any options that come out of New York's bullpen.
Reds second baseman Derek Dietrich ($2,900) boasts a wOBA well over .400 against righties this season, so he's worth a look at his modest price against Aaron Nola, who has failed to recapture his stellar 2018 form by allowing a .408 wOBA to batters from the left side.
Stacks
Astros vs. Dylan Bundy (Orioles)
Michael Brantley (OF - $4,200), Derek Fisher (OF - $3,100), Alex Bregman (SS - $4,500)
Houston's powerful lineup is primed for success against Bundy, who has had trouble keeping the ball in the park. In 43 starts since the beginning of last season, Bundy's surrendered a whopping 55 dingers. Brantley owns a slugging percentage well over .500, and his platoon advantage against Bundy as a left-handed hitter makes him a strong choice. Fisher also has the platoon advantage and leads off against righties. Meanwhile, Bregman leads the Astros with 18 home runs and sports a wOBA over .400 in righty-on-righty matchups, and he'll get a great opportunity to increase both marks here.
Brewers vs. Steven Brault (Pirates)
Lorenzo Cain (OF - $3.500), Yasmani Grandal (C - $3,600), Hernan Perez (3B - $2,100)
Milwaukee's best right-handed hitters should find success against Brault, as Pittsburgh's lefty has surrendered a .406 wOBA to batters from the right side. Cain has a .345 wOBA against southpaws that climbs to .432 at home, the switch-hitting Grandal has a .427 wOBA from the right side this season, and Perez registers a .372 mark against lefties and batted cleanup the last time Milwaukee faced one.
Diamondbacks vs. Clayton Richard (Blue Jays)
Ketel Marte (OF- $3,900), Eduardo Escobar (3B - $3,900), Tim Locastro (OF - $2,300)
Richard has posted extreme splits in his 12.2 innings of work this season, allowing a .350 wOBA to batters from the right side while holding those from the left to .207. The veteran lefty's career marks allowed in those splits are .354 and .279, respectively, so Arizona's best right-handed hitters should be able to capitalize on this favorable matchup. The switch-hitting Marte leads off against lefties and comes in with a .397 wOBA when batting right-handed. Escobar's another switch-hitter who's done his best work from the right side, posting a .438 wOBA. Locastro is filling in for the injured Adam Jones (hamstring), and the fellow right-handed outfielder should make the most of his platoon advantage against Richard while offering owners an affordable option.
