Monday's MLB schedule is straight-up paltry. There are only five games on the slate, and three of them start at 1:10 p.m. ET. That means you have to get your lineup in early, and also you don't have a ton of options. As the regular season heads toward its conclusion, here are my recommendations for the final Monday for many MLB teams.
PITCHING
Cal Quantrill, CLE vs. KC ($10,000): Quantrill has been a real workhorse. He's appeared in 39 games, and 21 of those have been starts. His recent run as a starter has been quite impressive as well. Quantrill has an 1.76 ERA over his last 13 appearances. Kansas City, meanwhile, ranks 26th in runs scored.
Reiver Sanmartin, CIN vs. PIT ($): Sanmartin will be making his MLB debut Monday. He had a 3.94 ERA in Triple-A. How will he look? I don't really know. All I know is Pittsburgh is last in runs scored by a wide margin. There is no easier way to make your MLB debut. If you want to roll the dice, this is a great chance to do it.
TOP TARGETS
Juan Soto, WAS at COL ($4,600): Soto is one of the best hitters in baseball. He's going to post an OPS of more than 1.000 for the second season in a row, and his patience has helped him post a .471 OBP. Now he gets to hit at Coors Field? Against a pitcher in German Marquez who has a 4.32 ERA? That's a match made in baseball heaven.
Jose Ramirez, CLE vs. KC ($4,400): If somebody can quietly put up 36 home runs and 26 stolen bases, Ramirez has done it. He's a one-man offense with a .949 OPS at home. Brady Singer doesn't allow a lot of home runs, but he has a 4.72 ERA in part because he allows a lot of contact.
VALUE BATS
C.J. Cron, COL vs. WAS ($3,800): Cron has loved his move to Colorado. He's posted a 1.069 OPS at home, which has helped him hit 28 home runs on the season. Josiah Gray, meanwhile, has a 6.42 FIP. A big reason for that is the fact he's allowed 2.73 home runs per nine innings – and now he's at Coors Field.
Kyle Farmer, CIN vs. PIT ($3,500): Farmer has hit 16 home runs and posted a .262 average. Also, in September he's batted .294 with a .485 slugging percentage. He'll be facing Cody Ponce to start the day Monday, and Ponce has a 6.88 ERA.
STACK TO CONSIDER
White Sox vs. Matt Manning: Tim Anderson ($3,900), Jose Abreu ($3,900), Yoan Moncada ($3,400)
The White Sox are cruising into the playoffs, which could impact who is and who isn't in their lineup. You'll want to be careful on that front. That being said, Manning has a 5.73 ERA. Righties have hit .314 against him this year. You want White Sox on Monday. You'll just have to see who is going to be playing. If these three are in the lineup, though, I definitely like them.
Anderson is hitting .302 – this could be his third season in a row with an average over .300 – and he has 16 home runs and 18 stolen bases in only 118 games. Abreu is the big bat who racks up RBI in this lineup. He's hit 29 home runs and driven in a run 113 times. Moncada is getting on base at a .377 clip and has an .840 OPS versus righties since 2019.
