2025 Fantasy Outlook
It was only two years ago that the Lions shocked the league by selecting Jahmyr Gibbs 12th overall in the 2023 Draft, a move that precipitated Swift's exit from Detroit. At the time, the Lions were unsatisfied with Swift's toughness as a runner, leading them to spend a high pick on Gibbs even with Swift already under contract as a former 35th overall pick. The arrival of new coach Ben Johnson is particularly interesting as it pertains to Swift, because Johnson was Detroit's offensive coordinator during Swift's final year with the team. Even if Johnson still finds Swift somewhat disappointing, the Bears may have no choice but to start the 26-year-old after they concluded the 2025 Draft with just seventh-round pick Kyle Monangai added at running back. It remains to be seen how Johnson runs the Chicago offense now that he no longer has to report to Dan Campbell, but Johnson's offenses in Detroit consistently featured robust rushing attacks. If the Bears try to establish a similarly active rushing attack despite their weak backfield, Swift likely will be the one leading the charge. Read Past Outlooks

Over century mark in big win
Swift rushed 18 times for 125 yards and a touchdown while bringing in one of two targets for 13 yards in the Bears' 24-15 win over the Eagles on Friday.
ANALYSIS
It was a banner day for the Bears' ground attack, as both Swift and Kyle Monangai comfortably exceeded 100 yards. Each back also punched in a score, with Swift's coming from three yards out late in the first quarter and serving as his first trip to the end zone on the ground since Week 8. Swift's rushing yardage total was also a season high, making it a highly rewarding day against one of his previous squads. Swift saw four fewer carries than his rookie backfield mate Friday, however, but the division of labor could fluctuate week to week down the stretch depending on a number of factors, including who proves to have the hot hand in any given contest.

Chicago went into free agency looking to jumpstart a running game that was previously decent but noticeably lacking in explosiveness, so it made sense to target Swift and make him the centerpiece. Swift did well as the primary runner for Philadelphia in 2023, eclipsing 1,000 yards rushing for the first time in his four NFL seasons, and the hope is he'll tap into another level yet with the Bears. After years of rebuilding, the Chicago offense finally has strong personnel across all positional groups, making this a plug-and-play situation for Swift after signing a three-year, $24 million contract ($15.3 million guaranteed). Meanwhile, the Chicago backfield lacks any other player with Swift's talent/versatility. Khalil Herbert is a capable runner but lacks passing-down utility, while Roschon Johnson can block and catch but poses little threat on the ground. The Bears offense should improve significantly in 2024, and Swift has a real chance to earn a three-down role just as the tide rises. If Swift has a major limitation it's the question of volume capacity -- 2023 was his first season with more than 151 carries or 512 snaps. His three previous years, all in Detroit, were impacted by minor but nagging injuries that sometimes affected his workloads even when he was active. While there perhaps remains a question as to how much he can handle, Swift should approach whatever that number is in 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Facing competition for touches
Bears coach Ben Johnson suggested Friday that he'll employ a hot-hand approach to the backfield between Swift and Kyle Monangai in Week 10 against the Giants, per Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
Swift was officially cleared Sunday morning to suit up against the Giants following a one-game absence due to a groin injury. Prior to the Week 9 absence, Swift was the clear No. 1 option in Chicago's backfield, but Monangai has likely earned more opportunities after breaking out for 198 scrimmage yards while Swift was out. Getting off to a strong start Sunday will be imperative for both running backs.
