The Red Sox took care of business with two wins at home to start out the World Series. The Dodgers will now look to get back into the series with a win in Game 3 at Dodger Stadium. We're heading down to the wire in terms of DFS opportunities for the MLB season, so let's try to cash in Friday with a winning entry.
MVP
Mookie Betts, BOS ($9,000): Betts is off to a good start in the World Series, going 4-for-8 with a walk. He's still looking for his first home run of the playoffs, but he has scored 11 runs across 11 games. This will mark the first time the Dodgers have started a right-handed pitcher in the series with Walker Buehler taking the mound, but Betts didn't struggle with a .436 wOBA against righties this year. J.D. Martinez (ankle) might have more power upside than Betts, but with the uncertainty surrounding his ankle injury, he might not last the entire game in the field even if he does start.
Manny Machado, LAD ($9,000): Machado logged one hit in each of the first two games of this series, but he's still looking for his first home run since Game 1 of the NLCS against the Brewers. Before his recent power outage, he had slugged a homer in three of four games. Rick Porcello has allowed at least 1.3 HR/9 in three of the last four seasons, so Machado has enough upside to be worth considering for this points multiplier position.
INFIELD
Max Muncy, LAD ($8,000): With the Red Sox starting lefties in the first two games, Muncy found himself left out of the starting lineup. However, he did eventually enter both games and recorded a hit in Game 1. Expect him to start Friday, especially considering his .417 wOBA against right-handed pitchers.
Xander Bogaerts, BOS ($7,000): Bogaerts might not be the biggest name in the Red Sox lineup, but he provided plenty of power this year with a career-high .522 slugging percentage. Although he doesn't have the platoon advantage in this game against Buehler, he had more success against righties this year (.379 wOBA) than he did lefties (.350 wOBA).
Rafael Devers, BOS ($6,000): Injuries limited Devers to 121 games during the regular season and although he still hit 21 home runs, his batting average dropped all the way down to .240. He's doing his best to make up for lost time in the playoffs, hitting 8-for-26 (.308) with a home run. Left-handed pitchers held Devers to a 63 wRC+ this season, but he was able to record a 99 wRC+ against righties. At this cheap price, he might be worth the risk in tournament play based on the relief he can provide for your budget.
OUTFIELD
Andrew Benintendi, BOS ($8,500): If J.D. Martinez does start this game, either Benintendi or Jackie Bradley Jr. likely will have to hit the bench with their being no DH. Benintendi is clearly the better offensive player, leaving him with the higher upside if he does indeed start. Facing Buehler is no easy task, but Benintendi excelled with a .376 wOBA against righties.
Cody Bellinger, LAD ($7,500): Bellinger is another one of the Dodgers' left-handed hitters who has been relegated to coming off of the bench in the first two games. Based on his 88 wRC+ against lefties, that was likely a wise choice. Like Muncy, look for Bellinger to start Friday considering his 137 wRC+ against right-handers.
Yasiel Puig, LAD ($6,500): After going 7-for-21 (.333) in the NLCS, Puig is just 1-for-6 in the World Series. Some of that might be because of the two lefties the Red Sox started since Puig recorded a .270 wOBA against left-handers this year. He had for more success against righties with a .390 wOBA, making him a great cost-effective option to consider.
