The Red Sox took Game 1 of the World Series and will look to grab a 2-0 series lead with another win at home Wednesday. Game 2 also brings one of the final opportunities of the year to play FanDuel's single game contest. Let's examine some players to target as you work your way through crafting your entry.
MVP
J.D. Martinez, BOS ($9,000): Martinez caught fire after the first couple of games of the ALCS, going 5-for-11 with a home run and a double across the final three games of that series. He carried his success over into Game 1, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Not only does his excellent power stroke make him a prime candidate for this points multiplier spot, but Martinez had a .406 wOBA against left-handed pitchers this year and will be facing one in Hyun-Jin Ryu.
Manny Machado, LAD ($9,000): Machado accounted for the majority of the Dodgers' offense Tuesday, driving in three of their four runs. That marked the fourth time this postseason that Machado has driven in at least two runs in a game. He'll face left-hander David Price, which gives him plenty of upside based on his .383 wOBA against lefties.
INFIELD
Justin Turner, LAD ($7,500): Turner struck out twice in Game 1, which is rare for him considering he had a 12.7 percent strikeout rate this year. What wasn't that much of a surprise is that Turner recorded three hits, leaving him with at least one hit in all but two playoff games this postseason. With his 179 wRC+ against lefties, he's another Dodger right-handed hitter who could do some damage against Price.
Steve Pearce, BOS ($6,500): The move to bring in Pearce during the regular season could pay off big time for the Red Sox with all the left-handed starting pitchers the Dodgers have. He didn't get a hit in Game 1, but he drew a walk and scored a run. Left-handed pitchers have had plenty of trouble getting Pearce out this year, resulting in him posting a .407 wOBA against them.
David Freese, LAD ($5,000): Speaking of important additions, Freese has made some waves for the Dodgers in the playoffs. Even though the Dodgers lost Game 6 of the NLCS, Freese started that game and went 2-for-3 with a home run. He got a start in Game 1 on Tuesday and came through with two more hits. Right-handed pitchers held Freese to a 113 wRC+ this year, but he was much better against lefties with a 140 wRC+. He has some upside in tournament play.
OUTFIELD
Mookie Betts, BOS ($9,000): Betts is still looking for his first home run of the postseason, which is why it might be better to roll with Martinez in the MVP position. Even with his recent lack of power, Betts still has at least one hit in all but three games during Boston's current run. He absolutely destroyed left-handed pitchers with a 212 wRC+ during the regular season.
Yasiel Puig, LAD ($6,500): After Martinez and Betts, there's a pretty step drop off in production potential for outfielders with two left-handed pitchers on the mound. The next two options by salary are Andrew Benintendi ($8,000) and Cody Bellinger ($7,500). They finished with a .301 wOBA and a .297 wOBA, respectively, against lefties. Puig's .270 wOBA versus lefties isn't any better, but he is at least much cheaper. Working in Puig's favor Wednesday is that he finished with a .405 wOBA on the road this year compared to a .294 wOBA at home.
Matt Kemp, LAD ($4,500): Kemp took Chris Sale deep in Game 1 for his first homer of the postseason. Facing Sale is certainly no easy task, but Kemp has a career .384 wOBA against left-handed pitchers. Like Puig, Kemp has excelled on the road with a .360 wOBA compared to a .336 wOBA at home. At this dirt cheap price, he can go a long way towards helping you fit some studs into your lineup while still providing home run upside.
