PLAYER RECOMMENDATIONS
GOALKEEPER
Marc Andre ter Stegen, GER v. MEX ($5,200): Germany is the top favorite for this slate. Although Mexico should test the young Germans, ter Stegen should come out with the win and at least a few saves, if not a clean sheet. This team is regarded as the 'Germany reserve team,' but it is still a very good side and capable of winning the tournament. The cheap option on the slate is Claudio Bravo ($4,500), who is underpriced against a Portugal side that love to play in battles of futility.
DEFENDER
Joshua Kimmich, GER v. MEX ($6,300): Kimmich has posted double-digit fantasy points in all three games in the tournament. His price decreased $700 since last game, and Germany is still favorites. He has sent in at least four crosses in each game, and, at times, he is used as a right wing-back, which allows him to get further up the field.
Cedric Soares, POR v. CHI ($5,400): Cedric was rested last game, which should leave him more energy to get up the field Wednesday. He posted two double-digit performances in his first two games of the tournament, and with all of the peripheral stats he is capable of producing, there is a good chance he returns with another solid day.
Miguel Layun, MEX v. GER ($4,800): Layun will be one of Mexico's best attacking players. He gets up the wing from his left-back, and if he plays as a wing-back, he is responsible for more work in the attacking end. He takes many of Mexico's set pieces, and his service often finds him an assist to go along with his crosses.
MIDFIELDER
Alexis Sanchez, CHI v. POR ($9,100): In a position where there is not much to pick from, Alexis' midfielder eligibility comes in handy. It is never a sure high floor with Alexis, but he produces in the double-digit region more often than not. If it is his day, he will be a difference-maker. Portugal is very strong defensively, but Chile is seen as the favorite to many soccer analysts, and if La Roja are going to advance to the final, it will need Alexis to have a wonderful game.
Julian Draxler, GER v. MEX ($7,800): Draxler is the star of this Germany side, and the pressure is on his shoulders to produce. He is the penalty-taker and is over many of the set pieces in the attacking half of the field. He and Timo Werner will be the center of the attack.
Arturo Vidal, CHI v. POR ($7,300): Vidal and Alexis run the show for La Roja. Vidal will commit a fair share of fouls and possibly even get a yellow card, but he has a way of scoring goals in big games, and he will surely have a few chances Wednesday. He often gets on the end of crosses with headers and makes darting runs through the middle, but he also takes penalties, which is an added bonus.
FORWARD
Cristiano Ronaldo, POR v. CHI ($11,600): And as always, your fantasy squad hinges on the decision whether or not to pick Ronaldo. In this case, it is not the most favorable matchup, given the tenacity of Chile's defense, but Ronaldo is used to scoring in big games, and he is on quite a run of late.
Timo Werner, GER v. MEX ($8,500): Werner is coming off a brace in last game's rout, and he should get the start up front. It looked as if Lars Stindl found his spot up top in the match against Chile, but Werner looks to be the more natural center forward, as he fired five shots (four on goal) against Cameroon. Stindl will probably play in behind Werner, and the latter is the best striker after Ronaldo and Alexis.
Eduardo Vargas, CHI v. POR ($5,100): Vargas has been the wildcard in this tournament for La Roja. It seems like he either scores or is inches away from scoring in every match, and at $5,100 he makes for a solid bargain. He could be the difference maker if he scores, and he even has a decent floor with his shot count and low price.
