It's a surprisingly robust slate of evening games in the NHL on Sunday night with five on the schedule. Here are a handful of players to target, and to avoid, for your daily fantasy hockey lineups. Good luck!
GOALIE
Robin Lehner, VGK vs. OTT ($33): Lehner hasn't had the best season, but this is about the matchup. The Senators rank 26th in goals per game and are on the road for the second leg of a back-to-back. At the very least, I expect Lehner to pick up the win.
GOALIE TO AVOID
Igor Shesterkin, NYR at WPG ($40): Shesterkin could easily be fine Sunday. This is more about not feeling like his salary is worth ponying up for. There are better options with lower salaries. The Jets have also averaged 3.02 goals and 32.9 shots on net per games, so this isn't an easy matchup for Shesterkin.
CENTER
Trevor Zegras, ANA vs. SAN ($17): Zegras isn't just flash with 10 points over his last nine games. The Sharks will be on the road for a second straight night. Their top-two goalies are both hurt, leaving Zach Sawchenko and the newly-acquired Alex Stalock in net for the time being.
CENTER TO AVOID
Jared McCann, SEA at CAR ($17): McCann is back from injury, but he steps into a tough situation. The Kraken are away for the second consecutive day, and there is no worse matchup an offense can face wit the Hurricanes leading the league in GAA and penalty-kill percentage.
WING
Teuvo Teravainen, CAR vs. SEA ($23): I just mentioned the Kraken are playing back-to-back. They also roll out two goalies with sub-.900 save percentages, so either way it bodes well for their opponents. Teravainen has posted at least one point in 10 of his last 11 games, including nine with the extra man during that stretch.
Ondrej Palat, TAM at CHI ($19): Palat gets to skate alongside Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov, which is a nice play to be. That's helped him tally 15 goals and 19 assists in 49 games. The Blackhawks are on the second night of a back-to-back and Marc-Andre Fleury with his 2.84 GAA will likely be in net.
WINGS TO AVOID
Patrick Kane, CHI vs. TAM ($24): Kane has picked up his goal scoring, but he's could be tired on consecutive nights. He'll also likely be squaring off with Andrei Vasilevskiy who boasts a 2.32 GAA and .921 save percentage. It's not the day to be reaching for Kane's salary.
Blake Wheeler, WPG vs. NYR ($19): Like I said, recommending avoiding Shesterkin is about salary and the other options and not his performance. After all, the Rangers' netminder has starred with an 1.96 GAA and .940 save percentage. It's going to be a difficult day for Wheeler and company, and he's struggled to convert chances this year with a 7.0 shooting percentage.
DEFENSE
Alex Pietrangelo, VGK vs. OTT ($20): With points in back-to-back games, Pietrangelo has 30 on the season. He's also been active of late putting 33 shots on net in his last 10. Ottawa's goaltending has recently looked better, but it ranks in the bottom-five in shots on net per game. Also, the Sens are on the road for the second day of a back-to-back.
Jaccob Slavin, CAR vs. SEA ($17): Slavin has notched 29 points through 53 games. And while Tony DeAngelo has been out, the 27-year-old has been quarterbacking the top power-play unit. The Kraken carry a bottom-10 penalty kill and will also be on the road for the second night of a back-to-back.
DEFENSE TO AVOID
Seth Jones, CHI vs. TAM ($17): Jones has only managed three goals, but his 32 assists are impressive. That being said, Vasilevskiy's aforementioned numbers are also impressive. And the Blackhawks are on a back-to-back while the Lightning aren't.
Mark Giordano, SEA at CAR ($17): Giordano's 37-year-old legs may be a little tired on the road on consecutive nights. If that wasn't enough, Frederik Andersen enters with a 2.08 GAA and .928 save percentage. And don't forget the Hurricanes have the league's top penalty kill.
