Most Undervalued Skaters of the 2025-26 NHL Season

Rotowire.com used HockeyReference.com to gather salary information and points for each NHL team's players. With that information, we divided the salary by the player's point shares to determine the players' point value during the NHL 2025-26 season (as of Dec. 3).

Speaking of value, you'll find the best sports betting promos with us at RotoWire.com.

These are the parameters for our list:

  • Only forwards and defensemen were included because of the difference in point shares for skaters vs. goalies
  • Any players on their rookie contract were not included
  • All players included on this list are paid $3,000,000 or less to truly get the underrated skaters
  • All players included played at least 15 games this season by Dec. 3.

Who Are The NHL's Most Undervalued Skaters?

About a third of the way into the 2025-26 NHL season, no NHL has done more with less than Marcus Johansson of the Minnesota Wild. He has a value total of $307,692, according to our metrics, a number we obtained by dividing his salary cap hit of $800,000 by his 2.6 point shares from hockey-reference.com data.

Pittsburgh Penguins veteran Ryan Shea is second leaguewide with a value total of $409,091, and defenseman Emil Lilleberg of the Tampa Bay Lightning is third at $421,053 value total.

Other undervalued skaters include names like Alex Petrovic of the Dallas Stars, who has a value total of $455,882, while Chicago Blackhawks' blue-liner Louis Crevier is fifth overall, at $473,684.

Of the latter four men to make the top end of our NHL undervalued skaters list, Shea has the highest point share total this year, at 2.2, Lilleberg and Crevier are both at 1.9 and Petrovic sits at 1.7, as of Dec. 3, in the heart of Texas.

Who Else Made the Cut?

Emil Heineman of the New York Islanders is at $478,261 (sixth overall among team leaders), with 2.3 point shares this season on Long Island.

Kaedan Korczak is giving the Vegas Golden Knights good value; the defenseman is seventh on our list at $515,625 value total thanks to his 1.6 point shares so far.

Sam Malinski of the Colorado Avalanche ($518,519 value and 2.7 point shares), Nick Blankenburg of the Nashville Predators ($553,571 value/1.4 point shares) and Jackson LaCombe of the Anaheim Ducks ($544,118 value/1.7 point share) round out the leaguewide top 10.

Zooming out a bit, the NHL team with the most value for bettors is the Avalanche, who are the current Stanley Cup betting favorite on FanDuel Sportsbook at +400 odds. That's ahead of the Hurricanes (+750), Panthers and Lightning (+850 each) and the Golden Knights (+900).
