NHL Betting Overview Monday Night Key Odds Insights

Carolina Hurricanes at Boston Bruins

The Hurricanes (12-5-1) and Bruins (12-8-0) meet at TD Garden in Boston, with a puck drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPN+.

This is the second meeting of the season between these Eastern Conference combatants. Boston surprised Carolina 2-1 as moderate underdogs (+170) in the first meeting on Nov. 1 as the Under (6.5) connected.

In that first meeting, these teams battled to a scoreless tie through two periods before Casey Mittelstadt broke through for an even-strength goal 87 seconds into the third. Pavel Zacha and Charlie McAvoy assisted. That line was humming, as Viktor Arvidsson scored a goal at 5:05 of the third, with Mittelstadt and McAvoy picking up helpers. Alexander Nikishin gave the Canes a chance with a late goal, but they were unable to level the game with the extra attacker.

Frederik Andersen allowed two goals on 22 shots in that one, while Jeremy Swayman was a tick better, kicking aside 28 of the 29 shots he faced. We're expecting a rematch, as Andersen (5-4-1, 3.09 GAA, .886 SV%) and Swayman (8-4-0, 2.99 GAA, .902 SV%) are projected as the starters in net.

Carolina played back-to-back games over the weekend on home ice, winning 4-3 in overtime against Vancouver, while Andersen suffered a 4-3 overtime loss to the Edmonton Oilers. Since that setback in Boston, Carolina is 5-1-1 in the past seven games, with the Over going 5-1 in the past six contests.

Boston nipped the rival Canadiens 3-2 on Saturday, and the Bruins have been equally hot lately, going 8-1-0 in the past nine matchups, while the Over is 3-1 in the past four games, and 7-3 across the past 10 contests.

Let's back the Bruins again on home ice, but we'll go high on the total, as opposed to the low-scoring game we saw in the first meeting at the beginning of the month.

Utah Mammoth at Anaheim Ducks

In the late game, the Mammoth (10-7-1) and Ducks (11-6-1) tangle in a game between two teams looking to get back on track in the Western Conference. Puck drop is scheduled for 10:00 p.m. ET in the standalone game in the late window.

Anaheim won the season series 2-1 last season, with the Ducks winning 5-4 in overtime in the only meeting in Southern California. The Ducks also had a 5-4 shootout win in Salt Lake City on Dec. 22, and the other game was a 3-2 Utah win, so all three meetings resulted in one-goal contests.

Utah has tailed off a bit lately, going 1-3-1 in the past five matchups, and 2-5-1 across the past eight games. The Over is 4-1 in the previous five games as well, although the Under (6.5) cashed in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Islanders on Friday, as Karel Vejmelka gave his team a chance but faltered in the extra session.

Anaheim has dropped three in a row, getting outscored 12-4 in the skid. That includes a 2-0 loss at Minnesota on Saturday, as backup goaltender Petr Mrazek deserved a much better fate. He stopped 28 of 29 shots, with a lone even-strength goal just 55 seconds into the second period as his only blemish. The Ducks put Mrazek into tough spots time and again, committing five penalties for 14 minutes.

Utah is 5-6-0 on the road, while Anaheim is 5-1-0 at home, so that tips the scales in favor of the Ducks.

While Anaheim has had some issues scoring lately, the Over is 4-1 in the past five games for Utah. Go low, as long as you can get a total of 6.5 goals.
