RJ Harvey

Running BackRB
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Harvey originally was recruited to Virginia to play quarterback, but at 5-foot-8, 205 pounds, that would have been a disorienting sight. He found his true calling upon transferring to UCF, where he moved to running back and caught fire. After an initial redshirt season, Harvey went nuts over the next three years, turning 576 carries into 3,789 yards (6.6 YPC) and 43 touchdowns in 38 games. Harvey was also lethal as a receiver, turning 79 targets into 61 receptions for 720 yards and five touchdowns (77.2 percent catch rate, 9.1 YPT). While he might look small at a glance, Harvey is densely built for his height, with a low center of gravity that makes him difficult to tackle. He thrived as a workhorse the last two years, and he may quickly emerge as a starter for the Broncos after they selected him in the second round of the 2025 Draft, 60th overall. Jaleel McLaughlin is essentially a smaller, slower version of Harvey, and 2024 fifth-round pick Audric Estime may be limited to power-specialist functions. Perhaps Harvey was a surprising second-round pick, but no one should be surprised if he takes over the Denver offense in 2025. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
The landing spot and draft capital are going to transform Harvey from a sleeper to a mainstream fantasy target. Denver was in need of a running back after it struggled in that facet last year and also lost Javonte Williams. Harvey had to battle plenty of competition for carries during his time at UCF but always won out. He took on 225 or more carries in each of his last two seasons and ran for 16 and 22 touchdowns in those years, respectively, while maintaining a yards-per-carry figure north of 6.0. At 5-foot-8 and 205 pounds, Harvey has a dense build similar to that of D'Andre Swift's coming out of college. His 4.4 speed at the combine and impressive broad jump (127 inches) verified him as a plus-athlete. Harvey has something of an incomplete grade as a pass catcher with just 61 catches over his last three seasons, but he did damage with his receptions at 11.8 YPR. He should immediately compete for a big role out of the Denver backfield and will be one of the more buzzy rookie running backs in fantasy draft season.

Emulating Sproles and Kamara
RBDenver Broncos
May 10, 2025
Harvey has spent the early portion of rookie minicamp watching film of Alvin Kamara and Darren Sproles with head coach Sean Payton to implement choice and wheel routes out of the backfield, Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Kamara and Sproles played under Payton in New Orleans, and the longtime head coach used film of those two running backs to highlight Harvey's potential role in the Broncos offense. Harvey had a good outing during Saturday's minicamp session, showing good vision and agility on run plays. He also didn't drop a pass while running wheel routes, which he ran frequently of at the University of Central Florida. The rookie second-round pick will compete with Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime for backfield snaps in training camp.
