Only T20I Preview: Sri Lanka vs. England

Sri Lanka are ready to face England in their tour's only T20 international in Colombo on Saturday. In the recently concluded five-match ODI series, which was heavily affected due to bad weather, the visitors came out on top in three out of four matches that were possible between the two sides. However, on Saturday, it will be the home side who will go in the contest full of confidence after securing a 219-run win in the fifth match of the ODI series, which came at the same venue where the T20I will be played.

In the batting department, the Islanders will be banking on in-form wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella and ODI captain Dinesh Chandimal to produce bulk of the runs, whereas captain Thisara Perera will have the responsibility to provide big finish to the innings. In the bowling department, the reliance will be on veteran pacer Lasith Malinga to produce the goods.

On the other hand, England will hoping to put a similar kind of performance as they did in the middle three ODIs. In the batting department, the team will be relying on captain Eoin Morgan and vice-captain Jos Buttler to produce bulk of the runs, whereas in the bowling department, the onus will be on the pace attack to deliver the goods.

R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo is one of the most used venue in the country. So far, there have been 34 T20Is played at the venue where the highest score of 215-5 was registered by Bangladesh in the match against Sri Lanka in 2017-18. Best bowling figures of 4-12 at the venue in a T20I match was registered by Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh.

Key Players

Jos Buttler – 10 Cr
First in the list of key players features England wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler. The 28-year-old has been in fine form in the shortest format of the game ever since he started to open the innings. In his last four innings in T20Is, Buttler, who is valued at 10 Cr, has two half-centuries to his name, which shows he has all the capability to deliver a match-winning knock for his team on any given day.

Adil Rashid – 9 Cr
Second in the list features England leg-spinner Adil Rashid. The 30-year-old has improved significantly in the recent past as a limited-overs bowler and has produced number of impressive performances for the team. Valued at 9 Cr, Rashid might prove to be a great addition to your team, especially considering the conditions in Colombo, which generally suit spinners. However, Rashid has only two wickets to his name in last three innings in the T20Is.

Lasith Malinga – 9 Cr
Last in the list features veteran Sri Lanka pacer Lasith Malinga. The 35-year-old was in a decent form for the home side in the recently concluded ODI series where he bagged five wickets in four matches. Valued at 9 Cr, Malinga can prove to be an excellent purchase as he has the experience of 68 T20Is under his belt, claiming 90 wickets at an average of 19.77. At Premadasa, Malinga has played 13 matches, claiming 15 wickets in those matches.
