India vs. South Africa, 2nd T20I: Familiar foes gear up for the first battle of the tour

Match Details:

Match: India vs South Africa

Venue: Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium, Mohali

Date: September 18, 2019

Time: 07:00 p.m. IST

Preview:

Rain played spoilsport in the series opener at Dharamsala and, hence, the second T20I of the series at Mohali will be South Africa's first encounter with India on this tour. India have gone top heavy in their batting lineup once again with all three of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli featuring in this series. However, it is their bowling lineup that is a bit inexperienced. All of their regular bowlers in Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav have been rested for this series and the likes of Deepak Chahar, Rahul Chahar, Navdeep Saini and Khaleel Ahmed have been given the chance to prove their mettle.

This is an area which South Africa would look to target. They have some new faces in the squad as well such as George Linde, Reeza Hendricks among others. And they would be eager to seal their spot in the side too.

Weather Conditions: It rained a bit in Mohali on Tuesday but clear weather has been forecasted for Wednesday. As a result, a full match is in the cards.

Pitch Conditions: The pitch at Mohali is great for batting once again. High scores can be expected and the team batting second stands a good chance of chasing any target down.

Probable Playing XIs:

India: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar

Probable Playing XIs:

India: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (c), Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Krunal Pandya, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar/Rahul Chahar, Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini

South Africa: Quinton de Kock (c & wk), Reeza Hendricks, Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, George Linde, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Junior Dala, Tabraiz Shamsi

Top Picks:

Wicket-Keeper: Quinton de Kock

The South African skipper is an aggressive top-order  batsman who likes decks on which the ball comes on to the bat nicely. The Mohali pitch is one such deck and he will enjoy batting here. He scored over 500 runs at an average of over 35 in this IPL season and that sums up his experience in these conditions.

Batsman: Rohit Sharma

The Indian opener is the highest run-getter in T20I history as the moment and his tally of 341 runs against South Africa is also the second best for any batsman. He averages 37.88 in T20Is against the Proteas and also has three fifty-plus scores to his name, one of which is a century.

All-rounder: Krunal Pandya

The Baroda all-rounder has become on of the mainstays of the T20I side for India. He averages 25.5 with the bat and has 14 wickets to his name after 14 T20Is for India.

Bowler: Kagiso Rabada

The South African pacer didn't have the best of outings in the World Cup but he had taken 25 wickets in 14 matches during the IPL this year. He knows these conditions well and, thus, can be expected to do well once again.

Captaincy Options (in order of priority): Rohit Sharma, Krunal Pandya
