Rakuten Monkeys (17-9) at Uni-President Lions (12-18)
Sunday, May 31, 5:05 AM EDT
Projected Starters
LHP Ryan Carpenter (1-1, 3.11 ERA) vs RHP Logan Darnell (0-0, 5.79 ERA)
Game Preview
A four-run eighth inning helped the Lions to a 7-5 victory Saturday, evening this series at one win apiece. A pair of American lefties will battle it out in Sunday's rubber match. The Monkeys will turn to Ryan Carpenter, who's cruised to a 3.11 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP through his first six CPBL starts, numbers that look even better when considering the league's offensive explosion this season. Logan Darnell will take the hill for the Lions. He's only made two appearances this year, throwing 3.2 innings against the Monkeys last Sunday and making a one-inning relief appearance on Friday. He may not be able to go too deep in this one, as he threw just 69 pitches in his lone start this season.
Monkeys' Last Lineup

Ryan Carpenter, Monkeys: Carpenter does come in slightly more expensive than Logan Darnell, but he's well worth the price. He's had a strong season this year, while Darnell has workload questions

Ryan Carpenter, Monkeys: Carpenter does come in slightly more expensive than Logan Darnell, but he's well worth the price. He's had a strong season this year, while Darnell has workload questions and is stuck facing the Monkeys' loaded lineup.
Lin Li, Monkeys: Lin is nearly always the Monkeys' top captain option, and that's no different in this one. His homer Saturday gave him four in his last seven games and six on the season to go with his .377 batting average.
Kuo Fu-Lin, Lions: Kuo didn't make the recommended team below, as selecting Carpenter meant it wasn't wise to spend large chunks of the budget on Lions hitters. If you're looking to build a Lions-based lineup, though, Kuo makes for a strong captain choice, as he bats right-handed against the left-handed Carpenter and has hit .326 with seven homers this season.
Chen Chun-Hsiu, Monkeys: Chen deserves consideration for one of the two captain spots, as he's a right-handed bat who hits near the top of the Monkeys' excellent lineup. He hasn't been dominant this season, hitting just two homers, but his lineup position makes him a strong choice.
