Georgia and Texas meet in Athens for the third matchup in the last two seasons. The two played twice last year with Georgia taking both games, the first of which came at Texas while the second came in Atlanta in the SEC Championship Game. This year, Georgia comes in 8-1 with their lone loss coming to Alabama. Texas comes in 7-2 with losses to both Ohio State in week one and Florida.

After losing to Florida, Texas has rattled off four straight wins and looks to continue its winning streak for the potential of a playoff birth. Neither of these teams got off to the start of the season they had expected. While Georgia has just one loss, the offense has taken some time to get rolling but looks to have found its stride as it heads into a tough matchup against a strong Texas defense. Much like Georgia, the Texas offense also struggled in the beginning of the season, but with 79 points over their last two games, they may have found their stride as well. Both teams will look to add another bullet point to their resume for the College Football Playoff in this Top-10 matchup in Athens.

Texas vs Georgia Betting Picks for Week 12

Texas, throughout the season, has been led by defense. The Horns rank second in the SEC in points per game, allowing an average of just 16.4 points per game on the year. A big reason why the defense has been so successful is due to their strength in stopping the run. The Longhorns rank first in the SEC and second in the nation against the run, allowing an average of just 78.7 rushing yards per game. Texas is also anchored by one of the best edge rushing duos in the nation in Colin Simmons and Anthony Hill. The two have been a major reason why the Texas defense ranks fifth in the nation in sacks averaging 3.6 sacks per game.

The Longhorns' offense has been a bit of a different story as they rank 10th in the SEC in total yards, averaging 381.4 yards per game and  29.6 points per game. A big reason why Texas has struggled offensively is due to an inefficient running game. The Longhorns rank just 12th in the SEC in rushing yards per game, as lead back Quintrevion Wisner has averaged just 3.8 yards per attempt, and the Texas offense is averaging 135.3 rushing yards per game. The passing offense also started the season a bit stagnant, as quarterback Arch Manning averaged just 207 passing yards per game through the first seven games of the season. Manning has been much better as of late as he averaged 337 yards per game in the last two games while throwing for a total of six touchdowns to one interception and adding a rushing touchdown.

Georgia has had its ups and downs throughout the year but has been solid overall. The Bulldogs defense currently ranks sixth in the SEC in points allowed per game with 19.8 and fourth in yards allowed per game with 310.8. The Bulldogs don't quite have the elite talent on defense that they have had in the past, but have played solid team defense overall. The Bulldogs have had a few hiccups along the way in games against Tennessee and Ole Miss where they allowed 41 and 35 points, respectively. The offense was able to overcome and get the job done for the Bulldogs in each of those games.

The Georgia offense has also had its hiccups along the way, including games of just 20 points and 21 points against Alabama and Auburn, but they have also been very solid as a whole. Georgia ranks fourth in the SEC in rushing yards per game with 197.2. The Bulldogs' rushing success rooted in an extremely strong backfield, which features two running backs averaging over five yards per carry in Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens. Quarterback Gunner Stockton has also started to break out in recent weeks. Stockton started season averaging 210.7 passing yards per game while totaling six touchdowns and one interception through the first six games. In the last three games, Stockton has picked it up, averaging 258.7 passing yards per game with a total of nine touchdowns and one interception.

Texas vs Georgia Expert Pick: Texas +6.5 (DraftKings Sportsbook)

Texas vs Georgia Predictions for Week 12

In recent weeks, both of these offenses have started to play much better football; however, the Georgia offense has been more consistent throughout the year. The biggest factor here will be how the defenses play. Over the course of the season, the Texas defense seems to have a slight edge. Where we could see the biggest factor is in the Longhorns ability to stop the running game. This should help them greatly in keeping Georgia in tough to convert third and long situations, allowing their pass rush to get after Stockton. The strengths of the Texas defense matchup well against the Georgia offensive system to this point in the season. The progression of Stockton throughout the year will likely help them overcome some struggles in the running game but I think this one will be much tighter than where the books currently have it.

Georgia 23, Texas 21

Texas vs Georgia Player Props for Saturday, November 15th

Chauncey Bowens Under 46.5 Rushing Yards

In recent weeks there has been a bit of a shift in the backfield usage split for Georgia where we have seen Nate Frazier get the bulk of the work. Given the reduction in touches and the strength of the Texas defense to stop the run I see Bowens rushing total going under.

Oscar Delp Over 17.5 Receiving Yards

With the way the Texas defense is set up, I see a lot of situations in which the Bulldogs will try to get their tight ends on the field. Whether it be in the running game to add an extra blocker, or the passing game to chip Texas' stud edge rushers, Delp will likely be on the field a lot. Delp's utilization in the play action game and as an outlet will likely be a big factor to the success of Georgia's offense against a tough Texas defense.
