CFL Betting: CFL Bets and Parlays for Week 17
Our Saturday doubleheader this week features a pair of postseason contenders in a key late-season matchup in the matinee, followed by a battle between a Riders team that's already punched its postseason ticket but looking to still clinch the West Division crown and remain sharp ahead of the playoffs and an Elks squad fighting to stay in the postseason hunt.
Read on for a look at which Week 17 CFL betting scenarios catch my eye on FanDuel Sportsbook.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Winnipeg Blue Bombers (Saturday, Sept. 27, 3:00 p.m. ET)
As was the case last week, the Blue Bombers continue in their relatively unfamiliar role of scrappy underdogs Saturday in terms of their playoff chances. Winnipeg pulled itself to 7-7 with a 26-18 win over the Redblacks in Week 16, and by managing to hold it together while Zach Collaros went through a two-game absence, they're now in solid position to continue forging ahead for a postseason spot in his return Saturday.
Having their multi-time Grey Cup winner under center has to be a sight for sore eyes for Bombers players, coaches and fans after Chris Streveler somehow threw for just 54 yards on 3-for-8 passing versus the Redblacks. Collaros should be able to lead the air attack competently against a Ti-Cats defense that's allowed 278.6 passing yards per game and surrendered the third-most yards after catch (1,587) in the league.
The Ti-Cats have been even more vulnerable on the ground, where they're allowing the third-most rushing yards per game (107.1) and doing so at the league's second-highest average yards per carry (5.6). That gives a nice boost to the chances of the Bombers, who are actually slim home favorites, to run a balanced attack behind workhorse back Brady Oliveira, who's coming in with back-to-back 100-yard games – including 116 against these same Ti-Cats two games ago – and has posted over 70 rushing yards on five occasions overall this season, including in three straight.
Winnipeg is 4-2 at home, so a same-game parlay that utilizes FanDuel's Alt. Spread feature to our advantage and allows us to actually give the Bombers 6.5 points while combining it with another solid day for Oliveira on the ground against Hamilton is certainly worth considering.
CFL Picks for Tiger-Cats at Blue Bombers
- SGP: Blue Bombers Alt. Spread +6.5 and Brady Oliveira 70+ rushing yards (+103 on FanDuel Sportsbook)

Saskatchewan Roughriders at Edmonton Elks (Saturday, Sept. 27, 7:00 p.m ET)
The Roughriders are a league-best 10-3 coming into Week 17, riding an effective combination of balanced offense and aggressive defense to a mostly dominant season. However, Saskatchewan hasn't quite shaken the now 8-6 Stampeders for the division crown, and after stumbling against the Alouettes at home in Week 15 by a rather stunning 48-31 score, the Riders are likely honed in on not giving away any more high-probablilty victories with the playoffs right around the corner.
The host Elks could prove to be a good test to that resolve Saturday night, as Edmonton is just 5-9 but has proven a feisty bunch under Cody Fajardo. They're now on the brink of playoff elimination after losing their last two games by a combined three points, offering a glimpse at how they're likely better than their record but still have plenty of work to do when it comes to slamming the door in the fourth quarter.
The Riders are undoubtedly a better team top to bottom, with their defensive talent especially tilting the scales their way. Saskatchewan came into Week 17 with a co-league-leading 34 sacks and league-best 18 interceptions, and in one of those close defeats for the Elks – the Riders squeaked by them by a 21-18 score at Mosaic Stadium in Week 8 – they sacked Fajardo a whopping eight times.
That same often-dominant unit is one that I feel will be key to a tough road victory Saturday, with the fact the Riders are a stellar 5-1 when traveling certainly helping the odds of that transpiring. Then, the Achilles heel of Edmonton's defense has undoubtedly been its secondary, which is allowing a league-high 297.1 passing yards per game and 72.1 percent completion rate.
That sets up the second component of an SGP, one that backs the idea of the Riders' KeeSean Johnson, who had a 9-78-1 receiving line in the first meeting and has over 50 receiving yards in 11 of 13 games, to have another solid showing.
CFL Picks for Roughriders at Elks
- SGP: Roughriders moneyline and KeeSean Johnson 50+ receiving yards (+103 on FanDuel Sportsbook)
