This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.
There are only a couple of early start times Tuesday, leaving us with 13 games to choose from for the main evening Yahoo slate. Despite the busy schedule, there aren't many top-tier pitchers set to take the mound, so scoring might not be all that hard to come by. Here are some players and stacks to consider while creating your lineup.
Pitching Overview
Lucas Giolito ($46) has had some excellent starts this season, but a lot of them have come against bad teams. However, he had his best start in his last outing against the Astros, recording nine strikeouts over nine scoreless innings. Given their offensive prowess, that's extremely impressive. Now he'll face the Royals for the third time this season after holding them to two runs and recording 13 strikeouts across 9.1 innings in the first two outings. This is a prime spot to add him to your entry.
In what has the potential to be a low scoring game, the Marlins will host the Giants. Jeff Samardzija ($40) will take the mound for the visiting team sporting a 3.27 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. Those numbers might look good, but there are several concerning supporting stats, including his 5.37 xFIP and abnormally low .226 opponents' BABIP. He's also allowed 10 home runs across 52.1 innings. With all of that being said, the Marlins have the worst lineup in baseball, so this is a matchup to exploit.
Sticking with that same game, the Giants have scored the third-fewest runs (194), so Trevor Richards ($34) is also someone to consider. He's allowed more than three runs in only three of his 10 starts this season, although his 5.35 xFIP is concerning. Don't count on him for many strikeouts based on his career 23 percent strikeout rate, but he certainly has the potential to record a quality start, making him a viable cheaper option in tournament play.
Key Values/Chalk
The Rockies are playing at Coors Field, which immediately makes them one of the more appealing lineups to pursue. They also have a great matchup against Merrill Kelly, who enters with a 5.21 xFIP and a 1.55 WHIP. He's not an overpowering pitcher, either, with his 16.9 percent strikeout rate. This has the potential to get ugly in a hurry.
While the Diamondbacks might have a hard time preventing the Rockies from scoring, they should provide plenty of offense themselves against Antonio Senzatela. He has a 1.62 WHIP and has allowed eight home runs across 42 innings, which is a deadly combination at Coors Field. Look for the Diamondbacks' hitters to be right up there with the Rockies in terms of ownership percentage.
The Rangers will be deploying an opener strategy with Jesse Chavez set to start against the Mariners. He is expected to be following by Adrian Sampson, who has a 5.39 xFIP and a 1.46 WHIP. Sampson was a starter for a stretch earlier this season, but was moved to a relief role after struggling to provide quality innings. Since he's still expected to pitch the bulk of the innings, the Mariners also have the potential to score in bunches.
Stacks
Rockies vs. Kelly (Diamondbacks)
Nolan Arenado (3B - $27), David Dahl (OF - $16), Daniel Murphy (1B - $16)
For a Rockies stack at Coors Field, this trio is not that expensive at a total of $59. Arenado is a must since he has seven straight multi-hit games. Murphy is also starting to heat up by hitting 9-for-25 (.360) over his last seven games. Dahl loves hitting at home, posting a career .411 wOBA there compared to a .303 wOBA on the road.
Diamondbacks vs. Senzatela (Rockies)
Eduardo Escobar (3B - $26), Ketel Marte (OF - $24), Jarrod Dyson (OF - $14)
Escobar continues to be one of the anchors of the Diamondbacks' lineup, hitting 18-for-61 (.310) with five home runs, three doubles and two triples across his last 13 games. Marte is having a stellar power season of his own with a career-high .250 ISO. Dyson recorded two extra base hits in the opening game of this series Monday and is one of the better cost-effective options on the team to deploy.
Mariners vs. Sampson (Rangers)
Domingo Santana (OF - $16), Mitch Haniger (OF - $18), Daniel Vogelbach (1B - $17)
Although Sampson is right handed, he's allowed a career .406 wOBA against righties compared to just a .321 wOBA against lefties. That puts Santana and Haniger in play, especially since they both have significant power upside. Speaking of power upside, Vogelbach hit a monster of a homer Monday, giving him 15 already for the season. He's hard to pass up at this reasonable price.
Rays vs. Clayton Richard (Blue Jays)
Austin Meadows (OF - $22), Tommy Pham (OF - $20), Avisail Garcia (OF - $20)
Richard made his first start of the season against the Red Sox on Thursday, allowing one run over four innings. He only threw 54 pitches and will likely continue to be on a limited pitch count in this outing. The Rays might be able to take advantage of this matchup, especially Pham considering his career .370 wOBA against lefties. Even though Meadows doesn't have the platoon advantage, he's as hot as it gets by hitting 20-for-57 (.351) with five home runs, four doubles and three steals over 15 games since being activated from the IL.
