Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Tuesday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

All 30 MLB teams will be in action Tuesday beginning at 7:05 PM Eastern time. A pair of AL Central pitchers from different regions of the price spectrum are primed to exploit weak division opponents, while right-handed hitters dominate the batting suggestions with a number of vulnerable lefties on the mound on this slate.

PITCHER

Mike Clevinger, CLE vs. KC ($46): Clevinger has been terrific recently, holding opponents to no more than three runs in each of his past eight starts. He has a 2.42 ERA and 54:16 K:BB over 48.1 innings in that stretch, and Clevinger has a great opportunity to keep rolling at home against the Royals. Kansas City's offense ranks 28th with just 3.83 runs per game.

Lucas Giolito, CWS vs. DET ($33): Long considered a top prospect, Giolito finally seems to be putting it all together at age 24. He's strung together four consecutive quality starts while posting a 2.84 ERA and 2.88 FIP over that stretch. Improved control has been key to Giolito's recent success, as evidenced by his 27:6 K:BB in 25.1 innings during those four outings. Keeping things going shouldn't be difficult against a Tigers offense that's scoring just 3.87 runs per game -- fourth-fewest in the league.

CATCHER

J.T. Realmuto, MIA vs. PHI ($17): Realmuto has done his best work in righty-on-righty matchups, producing a .381 wOBA that easily eclipses his .295 mark against lefties. He should be able to outproduce his $17 valuation against Phillies righty Jake Arrieta, who has underwhelmed over his past four starts with a 6.30 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 20 innings.

FIRST BASE

Matt Davidson, CWS vs. DET ($17): Davidson's quietly having an excellent year against left-handed pitching, with a .406 wOBA in 95 at-bats. That number should climb even higher by the time he's done with Tigers starter Francisco Liriano, who has allowed a .386 wOBA to the 376 batters to face him from the right side in 2018.

SECOND BASE

Brian Dozier, LAD vs. NYM ($17): Mets southpaw Jason Vargas is in the midst of an awful campaign, as right-handed hitters have produced a .385 wOBA against him. When Vargas pitches outside the pitcher-friendly confines of Citi Field, that number climbs to .432. Dozier's having a down year by his standards, but the veteran second baseman's .368 career wOBA against lefties suggests he has the skills to capitalize on this favorable matchup.

THIRD BASE

Kris Bryant, CHC at MIL ($14): Injuries have limited Bryant to 63 at-bats against lefties this season, but he's excelled in that limited sample with a .482 wOBA. Bryant's .410 career mark in that split suggests his success this year is no fluke, which is bad news for Brewers southpaw Wade Miley in this matchup. Grab Bryant at $14 while you still can before his price climbs into its usual range.

SHORTSTOP

Francisco Lindor, CLE vs. KC ($17): Lindor's having a strong all-around season, but Cleveland's switch-hitting leadoff man has been especially effective from the right side, with a .415 wOBA against left-handed pitching. With Progressive Field's fourth-ranked, 1.15 park factor aiding him, Lindor's primed for a big day against Royals lefty Danny Duffy. Right-handed hitters have a .339 wOBA against Duffy this year.

OUTFIELD

Mitch Haniger, SEA vs. BAL ($22): Right-handed batters have exploited Orioles righty Alex Cobb to the tune of a .369 wOBA while those from the left side actually have only a .329 mark. Haniger's a strong candidate to take advantage of those unconventional splits, as he's done his best work in righty-on-righty matchups, with a .368 wOBA compared to a .354 mark against lefties.

Marcell Ozuna, STL at WAS ($16): Washington righty Erick Fedde will be reinstated from the 60-day DL to make this start, which is good news for Cardinals sluggers like Ozuna. Prior to going down long-term with a shoulder injury, Fedde faced 61 right-handed batters this season and surrendered a .413 wOBA to them. Ozuna's one year removed from posting a .400 wOBA in righty-on-righty matchups, so he's capable of doing serious damage out of the cleanup spot here.

Matt Kemp, LAD vs. NYM ($13): It's prudent to stack right-handed hitting Dodgers given Vargas' aforementioned struggles, and Kemp also benefits from having an affordable $13 valuation. The veteran slugger has a .385 career wOBA against lefties, and he's managed a respectable .351 mark this season.
