Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Fall is here, even if it hasn't felt like it in some parts of the country. Why not stay in your nice, warm home and watch a day's worth of baseball? Sunday brings up the usual 15 MLB games, starting at 1:05 PM ET. Here are some recommendations for your daily fantasy lineup.

STARTING PITCHER

Hyun-Jin Ryu, LAD vs. SD ($43): Ryu missed a chunk of the season, but the Dodgers are glad to have him healthy down the stretch. He's posted a 2.18 ERA through 13 starts while striking out 9.98 batters per nine innings. He shouldn't be too bothered by a Padres team with a league-worst .235 team batting average.

Miles Mikolas, STL vs. SF ($40): Mikolas' return from Japan has gone about as well as possible. He comes in with a 3.01 ERA – and an even more impressive 2.23 ERA at home – while the Giants have been scuffling offensively, currently ranking 29th in runs scored.

CATCHER

Salvador Perez, KC at DET ($18): Perez is having arguably his worst season at the plate, and yet still has hit 26 homers in 123 contests. Daniel Norris has barely pitched this year for the Tigers, but has registered a 5.71 ERA when on the mound – which would make this his second straight season with an ERA over 5.00. He's also allowed 1.56 homers per nine innings, so Perez could add to that home run total Sunday.

FIRST BASE

Matt Olson, OAK vs. MIN ($17): Olson has hit righties quite well, with a .490 slugging percentage and 23 homers against them. Meanwhile, Kyle Gibson has allowed a .269 batting average against lefties like Olson, and since 2016, Gibson's BAA versus southpaws is .297. This matchup is clearly in favor of the A's first baseman.

SECOND BASE

Scooter Gennett, CIN at MIA ($18): Gennett has been a solid hitter for any position, but has been truly impressive for a second baseman. In addition to his .316 batting average, he sports a .364 OBP and has hit 23 homers. Trevor Richards has had a forgettable rookie campaign for the Marlins with a 4.95 ERA.

THIRD BASE

Matt Duffy, TAM at TOR ($16): Duffy doesn't hit homers, but he gets on base with gusto, as his season .361 OBP will indicate. The 27-year-old has even improved recently, with the OBP up to .414 over his last 25 games. Ryan Borucki has been less hot for the Blue Jays, with a 4.36 ERA over his last 12 starts.

SHORTSTOP

Didi Gregorius, NYY vs. BAL ($24): Gregorius has put his cold streak from the middle of the season behind him, with a 1.054 OPS over the last 21 days. He's also been good at home all year, sporting a .957 OPS at Yankee Stadium. Alex Cobb, who has been dealing with a finger issue, will be getting the start for Baltimore and enters with a 4.83 FIP.

OUTFIELD

Mitch Haniger, SEA at TEX ($22): Haniger has actually built upon his breakout 2017 season, slashing .287/.369/.502. His power has been slightly hindered by Safeco Field, but fortunately this game is at Texas' offense-friendly ballpark. Martin Perez has been inserted back into the starting rotation for the Rangers, which is a bit odd given that he's struggled to a 6.33 ERA and has allowed 1.81 homers per nine innings.

Andrew Benintendi, BOS at CLE ($14): Benintendi is primed to take advantage of the fact the Indians are trying to rest their pitchers for the playoffs. Adam Plutko and his 5.96 FIP is starting for Cleveland. He's also allowed a whopping .338 batting average to lefties, and the southpaw Benintendi comes in with a .878 OPS versus righties.

Chris Taylor, LAD vs. SD ($11): Taylor will likely draw into the lineup for the Dodgers, considering he's an outfielder who is actually capable of hitting lefties. He's also been decidedly better at home, which is another reason for the 28-year-old to play. Lefty Joey Lucchesi has a 4.09 ERA and has allowed 1.35 home runs per nine innings, despite the fact he pitches his home games at Petco Park.
