Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

It's the final Sunday of August, and we've got the usual 15 games on the MLB docket. The first game is at 1:07 PM EST, and you need to get your lineups in by then or get stuck playing a four-game late-afternoon slate. Here are some lineup recommendations to make the most of this Sunday.

STARTING PITCHER

Alex Wood, LAD vs. SD ($41): Wood comes in with a 3.60 ERA, which is right on the money considering his 3.59 FIP. He's been better recently, with a 2.78 ERA in his last 12 starts. The Padres rank in the bottom five in runs scored, but their team OBP of .297 places them last in the league.

Shane Bieber, CLE at KC ($37): Bieber may have a 4.36 ERA, but his 3.07 FIP looks more encouraging. Plus, thanks in part to the offensive support he's received, the rookie enters with a 7-2 record in 13 starts. This is mostly about the matchup, as the Royals sit last in runs scored by a comfortable margin.

CATCHER

Yan Gomes, CLE at KC ($13): Gomes has posted a solid offensive season for a catcher, with a .260/.312/.434 slash line with 12 homers in 92 games. He's been particularly hot recently, as his 1.005 OPS over his last 14 games will show. Jorge Lopez was pitching well in the bullpen for the Brewers, but things have deteriorated since becoming a starter for the Royals. Over two starts, he has slumped to a 6.52 ERA and 5.17 FIP.

FIRST BASE

Neil Walker, NYY at BAL ($18): Walker's overall numbers are a bit lacking, but he's turned it around over the last month. In his last 30 games, he's registered a .909 OPS and five of his eight homers. Just two years ago, he belted 23 homers in 113 outings, so we know he has power. In truth, this is mostly about the fact Dylan Bundy has a 5.67 ERA at home and has allowed 2.19 homers per nine innings.

SECOND BASE

Scooter Gennett, CIN at CHC ($16): Gennett has an imposing bat, but he's particularly good with a righty on the mound. When the lefty has squared off with a right-handed pitcher, he's slashed .323/.377/.506. Kyle Hendricks is a righty, and comes in with a 4.04 ERA. And over his last 12 starts, his ERA has been 4.63.

THIRD BASE

Johan Camargo, ATL at MIA ($15): Camargo showed promise as a rookie in 2016, and has maintained that this season. His OBP is up to .347, and he's hit both lefties and righties well. In nine starts as a Marlin, Jorge Lopez has managed a 4.54 FIP. That's not a big sample size, but he also had a 4.85 FIP in Triple-A before getting called up.

SHORTSTOP

Carlos Correa, HOU at LAA ($12): Sure, Correa has struggled since returning from his stint on the disabled list. Even so, a player of his caliber should never be available at a price like this. We're talking about an elite shortstop who has averaged 7.0 fantasy points per game. If you want somebody who has averaged more, you'll have to spend at least $17. On the off chance that isn't enticing enough, Angels starter Felix Pena has struggled with a 6.52 ERA at home.

OUTFIELD

Rhys Hoskins, PHI at TOR ($20): Hoskins' power numbers are down from last season's unsustainable highs, but he still has posted a .489 slugging percentage. Against righties, his slugging percentage is a more robust .541, and 22 of his 25 homers have come in those matchups. Hoskins may add to that total, as Marco Estrada and his 4.95 FIP has given up 1.60 homers per nine innings.

Gregory Polanco, PIT at MIL ($16): Polanco is another hitter who really puts a hurting on righties. The lefty has a .853 OPS against right handers with 15 homers and seven stolen bases. Chase Anderson, a righty, may have a 3.92 ERA but his FIP sits at a whopping 5.31. On top of that, he's disappointed at home with a 5.03 ERA.

Brett Gardner, NYY at BAL ($13): Gardner hit a homer Saturday, giving him 11 on the season to go with 13 stolen bases. Last year, he produced 21 homers and 23 stolen bases, so the veteran still has some speed and power. However, this is once again about the fact Dylan Bundy is on the mound for the Orioles. Bundy has a 5.34 FIP, which is terrible. And over his last 10 starts, he sports an even-worse 7.96 ERA.
