Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Saturday's main MLB slate is a modest one, with just six games on the docket after 7:15 PM Eastern time. Below, you'll find which individual pitchers and hitters are primed to provide the best value, as well as the top lineup stacking options in this slate.

Pitching Overview

Given the lack of selection in this slate, it's worth paying up for the most expensive pitching options, who are priced near the top for a reason. The priciest pitcher in this slate is the Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu ($51), who has allowed just three earned runs in 39 innings over his past five starts while adding a stellar 36:2 K:BB over that stretch.

Mike Minor ($44) has been superb against the Angels since joining their AL West rival Rangers, posting a 3-0 record and 1.35 ERA in three starts. That success includes a three-hit shutout back on Apr. 16.

Atlanta's Mike Soroka ($42) is also worth targeting, considering he's yet to give up more than one earned run in any of his seven starts this season.

Value Plays/Chalk

Given the top-heavy pitching situation, finding value plays among batters is imperative here. With the Orioles and Rockies set to square off at hitter-friendly Coors Field, plenty of affordable yet effective options should be available in that one. Additionally, the potent Braves and Yankees lineups are primed to find success against subpar pitchers.

In addition to the stacks below, certain individual batters stand out as options to target. Astros shortstop Carlos Correa ($21) has eviscerated lefties with a wOBA over .450 ahead of this home meeting with Red Sox southpaw David Price.

Trey Mancini ($19) is often overlooked, but the right-handed hitting outfielder has served as Baltimore's best hitter and brings a wOBA just under .450 against lefties into this Coors Field matchup with Colorado's Kyle Freeland.

Stacks

Rockies vs. Andrew Cashner (Orioles)

Raimel Tapia (OF - $18), Ryan McMahon (2B - $13), Tony Wolters (C - $15)

All three of these left-handed sluggers will have the platoon advantage against the right-handed Cashner, whose 4.14 ERA and 4.76 FIP don't exactly scare opponents. Tapia has been a classic beneficiary of the Coors Field effect, doing the vast majority of his damage at his hitter-friendly home park. And his home wOBA registers just under .500, nearly twice his road mark. He's also occupying the leadoff spot with Charlie Blackmon battling a calf injury. McMahon has also done most of his damage at Coors Field and plays a light-hitting position. While Wolters isn't one of Colorado's more fearsome sluggers, he'll have the platoon advantage against Cashner and could easily outplay his $15 valuation at this hitter-friendly venue.

Braves vs. Dakota Hudson (Cardinals)

Freddie Freeman (1B - $24), Nick Markakis (OF - $14), Brian McCann (C - $11)

Left-handed hitters continue to torment Hudson, having produced a .414 wOBA against the righty in his young career and a .440 mark this season. Freeman ranks as one of the game's most dangerous left-handed batters, while the other two are great value plays given the high cost of this slate's top pitchers. Markakis' wOBA against righties hovers around .400 and McCann's sits close to .350.

Yankees vs. Jorge Lopez (Orioles)

DJ LeMahieu (2B - $17), Gleyber Torres (SS - $23), Gio Urshela (3B - $14)

This is the second game of a doubleheader, so make sure the Yankees you pick are actually in the lineup. LeMahieu and Torres have both been significantly better on the road, and Urshela has been better in righty-on-righty matchups. Lopez is a vulnerable righty, having posted a 6.04 ERA and 5.75 FIP.
