Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

Yahoo DFS Baseball: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Baseball series.

Outside of Justin Verlander, there's a variety of cheaper pitching options on Saturday night's slate. If you want some bigger bats, that may be the route to go as a few of the value arms offer great matchups and a low over/under. The only worry for rain is in Texas and I provided other options in case the weather causes any problems.

PITCHER

Trevor Williams, PIT vs. MIL ($39): Williams makes too much sense in this spot for the price. He carved through the Brewers last time out and allowed three hits and zero runs against them in 13 innings this year. Williams has also reached 20 fantasy points in six of his last seven starts. The Brewers sport solid numbers, but are still striking out a decent amount with a 22.1 K% against righty arms over the last month.

Jose Urena, MIA vs. CIN ($35): Urena is on a nice run for the Marlins, winning his last three starts having allowed just 11 hits and three runs. His upside may not be as significant as others, but 20 fantasy points is a good projection against the Reds, who enter with a subpar 23.9 K% against righties over the last month.

CATCHER

Isiah Kiner-Falefa, TEX vs. SEA ($7): Kiner-Falefa is much more valuable against southpaws and he still doesn't come at a high price despite a cool .355 wOBA. Marco Gonzales hasn't registered a quality outing over his last five starts and has given up at least three runs in four of those. And against the Rangers in early August, he gave up 12 hits and seven runs. There aren't many other choices, but Willson Contreras ($10) has the matchup if Texas gets rained out.

FIRST BASE

Josh Bell, PIT vs. MIL ($16): Bell doesn't have the same pop as others, but he's hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games to go with a .342 wOBA against righty arms. Zach Davies gave up two runs in five innings last time out against the Pirates and his career .327 wOBA allowed to lefty bats doesn't help his situation against Bell and company.

SECOND BASE

Rougned Odor, TEX vs. SEA ($11): I rarely go with a lefty-lefty matchup, but the numbers support this one. Odor boasts a better .341 OBP against southpaws, while Gonzales has posted worse numbers against lefty hitters with a .340 OBP allowed and 1.50 HR/9. Elsewhere, Daniel Murphy ($17) is a great play if you have the funds.

THIRD BASE

Matt Chapman, OAK vs. MIN ($21): Chapman has slowed down since a hot August, yet still has registered more power against righties with a .266 ISO and .386 wOBA. Chase De Jong hasn't shown much in his two starts against the Royals, most recently giving up eight hits and three runs in 3.1 innings. If he can't get past the Royals, he'll have more trouble against the A's, who own the league's best wOBA (.370) against righty arms over the last month.

SHORTSTOP

JT Riddle, MIA vs. CIN ($11): Riddle qualifies as one of the few Marlins bats worth using and he's crushed righties of late, with a .429 OBP in his last 63 plate appearances. That's perfect against Anthony DeSclafani, who has given up 13 runs over his last three starts and has a brutal .394 wOBA allowed to lefty hitters.

OUTFIELD

Mitch Haniger, SEA at TEX ($21): Not many can match Haniger's recent numbers, with multiple hits in six of his last nine games and an XBH in five of those. He also comes in with a stout .369 wOBA against southpaws for the season, which works against Mike Minor and his 4-for-7 mark against the hurler this year. Minor isn't having a terrible season, yet a 4.76 xFIP against righty bats doesn't look promising. Kris Bryant ($19) counts as another Cub to consider if rain becomes an issue in Arlington.

Ramon Laureano, OAK vs. MIN ($19): Laureano isn't slowing down and his price sits at a respectable amount due to a lack of power. He's still sporting a .388 OBP over his last 80 plate appearances against righties to go with 11 extra-base hits – including 5 HR. There's no reason to believe in De Jong, who struggled with a 4.64 xFIP in Double-A over 21 starts and a 4.34 xFIP in Triple-A in seven games this year.

David Peralta, ARI vs. COL ($17): Peralta has slowed down a bit in August, but still enters Saturday with a .251 ISO and .402 wOBA against righties, which is as good as it gets. It's been an up-and-down season for Antonio Senzatela, who has given up four runs in each of his two starts against the Diamondbacks. And a career .320 wOBA allowed and 4.50 xFIP against lefty bats remains his main issue against this lineup.
