With six games on the slate, there are only a few choices to make. One of them is at pitcher where Gerrit Cole ($54) is by far the most expensive option. I recommended a couple of the cheaper arms, which will likely be an unpopular strategy since Cole should be good for 30 fantasy points against the Orioles.
PITCHER
Trevor Williams, PIT at CHC ($39): This is against the grain since Williams is an underdog, but there's no denying his numbers, with at least 20 fantasy points in seven of his last eight starts. He carved through a good Brewers squad in his last two and allowed only four hits in seven innings against the Cubs when he saw them in mid-August. The Cubs also aren't hitting well going into the playoffs with a 24.8 K percentage and .300 wOBA against righties over the last month.
Julio Teheran, ATL at NYM ($38): If you don't go Cole, the options are extremely limited and that's why I'm in this position. Teheran is pitching fine and has hit double-digit fantasy points in his last 10 starts. That's not an amazing stat, but it's something to work with since the Mets aren't bringing anything special to the table with a 22.9 K percentage and .315 wOBA in the last month against righty arms.
CATCHER
Yan Gomes, CLE at KC ($15): Gomes has picked up his bat against righty arms with a .368 OBP in his last 57 plate appearances to go with four homers. If the matchup is right, he can capitalize and that's what Glenn Sparkman presents. The righty hurler has two starts and 14 appearances this year and hasn't shown much with a .333 OBP and 10 extra-base hits allowed to 84 righties faced.
FIRST BASE
Yuli Gurriel, HOU at BAL ($18): Gurriel's on a nice run ahead of the postseason hitting safely in his last 12 starts with multiple hits in seven of those. That's led to a .364 OBP in his last 88 plate appearances against righties and that'll work against David Hess. The rookie pitcher is set for his last start of a troubling season as seen in a .359 wOBA allowed to righty bats.
SECOND BASE
Ozzie Albies, ATL at NYM ($13): Albies has been a monster against southpaws this year and is surprisingly cheap with a .220 ISO and .392 wOBA. Jason Vargas has been unreliable for most of the year with a 6.25 ERA standing out but also an ugly 2.09 HR/9 and .376 wOBA allowed to righty bats.
THIRD BASE
Hunter Dozier, KC vs. CLE ($16): Dozier is as cheap as it gets if you want a reasonably priced Royals bat, and he's mostly a power play due to his .207 ISO against righties. With Josh Tomlin on the mound, the Royals should be backed because it's been a rough season for him with a 5.02 xFIP and .340 wOBA allowed to righties.
SHORTSTOP
Elvis Andrus, TEX at SEA ($9): Andrus is cheap for a guy who has a .432 OBP in his last 37 plate appearances against lefty arms to go with a .162 ISO for the season. Marco Gonzales carved the Rangers in his last start but gave up 12 hits and seven runs a month before that. This one could go somewhere between those results, and a career .341 wOBA allowed to righties should help Andrus.
OUTFIELD
Nelson Cruz, SEA vs. TEX ($17): Cruz has been consistent throughout the season and sports a stout .244 ISO and .359 wOBA against righty arms. That should work against Ariel Jurado, who has a 6.66 ERA in 11 appearances (seven starts) and 5.06 xFIP against righty bats.
Robbie Grossman, MIN vs. DET ($15): The Twins aren't hitting much, but someone has to be used against Francisco Liriano. Grossman has a .621 OBP in his last 29 plate appearances against southpaws and a .373 wOBA for the season. Liriano hasn't been bad in recent starts, yet it's hard to ignore his .358 wOBA allowed to righties this year.
Josh Reddick, HOU at BAL ($11): If you need someone cheap, Reddick is worth a look in case Hess gets blasted again. Reddick's numbers against righties have been off this year, but he's only one year removed from a .190 ISO and .363 wOBA. Combine that with Hess' 2.50 HR/9 allowed to lefties and it's a match.
