The weather was pretty crazy on Saturday, though MLB seemed to mostly miss out on it. Fortunately, Sunday is looking nice, and there are 15 games on the slate as per usual. Most of them are in the afternoon, so be sure to get your lineup in early. Here are some recommendations to try and make you happy heading into Labor Day.
PITCHER
Lance Lynn, NYY vs. DET ($8,000): Behold, the transformative power of a change of scenery. Since being traded to the Yankees, Lynn has a 2.06 FIP and has struck out 10.80 batters per nine innings. His numbers will surely regress but perhaps not against the Tigers, who rank 28th in runs scored.
GPP Fade: Julio Teheran, ATL vs. PIT ($8,100): Teheran has been a steady presence in the Braves' rotation for years now, but the 27-year-old has never gotten over the hump. He has a 4.18 ERA, but his FIP is even worse at 5.04. He's also allowed 1.48 homers per nine innings. The Pirates only possess a few potent bats in their lineup, but they should be able to have a nice afternoon against Teheran.
Cheap GPP Consideration: Edwin Jackson, OAK vs. SEA ($6,100): It's easy to be skeptical about Jackson's 3.03 ERA, especially since his FIP is at 4.58. However, he pitches in a park that tends to suppress offense, and his home ERA is 2.88. This is also a favorable matchup for the veteran journeyman, as the Mariners rank 26th in runs scored since the All-Star break.
CATCHER/FIRST BASE
J.T. Realmuto, MIA vs. TOR ($3,600): Realmuto is one of the only catchers who hits like a first baseman. He's produced a .288/.348/.500 slash line with 18 homers in 105 games, with five homers in his last 30 outings. Sean Reid-Foley has pitched in two major-league games, and neither has gone well as the 8.68 ERA will show.
SECOND BASE
DJ LeMahieu, COL at SD ($3,200): LeMahieu has averaged 10.5 fantasy points per game, and it's not because he's feasted on home cooking. In fact, 10 of his 13 homers have come on the road, including one Saturday. We don't know much about Padres starter Jacob Nix, as the rookie has only made four starts. However, he has a 4.80 FIP, and also he's struck out a mere 3.15 batters per nine innings.
THIRD BASE
Eugenio Suarez, CIN at STL ($4,000): The Reds haven't been great, so you may not know Suarez has been absolutely raking it this season with a .934 OPS and 30 homers in 117 games. The third baseman has also been red hot as of late, posting a .994 OPS and hitting four homers over his last 14 contests. As for Cardinals starter Luke Weaver, he sports a 5.11 ERA at home.
SHORTSTOP
Marcus Semien, OAK vs. SEA ($2,900): Semien has always contributed a bit of power to go with a tinge of speed, as he has notched double-digit homers and stolen bases in each of the last four seasons. That includes this year, where he has amassed 11 home runs and 13 swiped bags. Semien will hope to be the latest hitter to take advantage of the twilight years of Felix Hernandez. Hernandez, who comes in with a 5.49 ERA and a road number that swells to 7.46.
OUTFIELD
Andrew Benintendi, BOS at CWS ($4,300): Keep the left-handed Benintendi away from lefties and he'll be just fine. He's slashed .313/.400/5.11 against righties, and the guy also does damage on the basepath with 20 stolen bases. Righty James Shields has a 5.31 ERA over his last 10 starts, and he really struggles to prevent homers. He's allowed 1.38 homers per nine innings this year after allowing 1.78 on average the last three seasons.
Adam Jones, BAL at KC ($3,600): Jones is now a largely forgotten veteran, and he may fail to hit 20 homers for the first time since 2010 unless he gets hot. However, his bat still has life in it, especially of late. Over his last 30 games, he has put together a .319/.373/.447 slash line. Jorge Lopez started the season in the bullpen for the Brewers, but has posted a 7.90 ERA since becoming a starter for the Royals.
Starling Marte, PIT at ATL ($3,400): Let's finish with one of those Pirates who might take advantage of Julio Teheran and his 5.04 FIP. After picking up a hit in eight straight games, Marte now has a .281 batting average despite issues with lefties. That won't be a problem with the righty Teheran on the mound. Additionally, the Pirates outfielder now has 17 homers to go with 30 stolen bases in 121 games.
