DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

There's a wide range of pitching options in Wednesday night's slate and that's seen in my two choices. That said, there are still a lot of sketchy arms to go against and I tried to grab one good matchup from each of those situations.

For those interested, we've started an MLB DFS Slack channel for paid RotoWire subscribers. (There is a season-long one as well.) To join those channels, e-mail support@rotowire.com.

PITCHER

Walker Buehler, LAD vs. COL ($11,300): I feel most comfortable with Buehler and while he's the most expensive pitcher, he's worth it. He had 37.6 fantasy points against the Cardinals last time out and has 25 Ks in his last three starts. Facing the Rockies away from Coors Field is one of the most favorable matchups in the league as they're near the bottom in numerous categories with a 25.8 K% and .264 wOBA against righties since the beginning of August.

GPP Fade: David Price, BOS at NYY ($10,300): I backed Price in his last start, but facing the Yankees in New York is nothing I want to touch. In this spot back in July, Price gave up nine hits, eight runs and five homers in an 11-1 loss. The Yankees haven't been hitting well, yet since Aug. 1 they still have a solid .174 ISO against lefties and that's what Price is afraid of.

Cheap GPP Consideration: Robbie Erlin, SD vs. SF ($4,600): This is an extreme GPP play as Erlin is almost as cheap as they get. He was decent in his last outing, allowing only one run to go with six strikeouts against the Rangers. The main reason to use him is that the Giants aren't hitting anyone and have a brutal 31.2 K% and .228 wOBA against southpaws in the last month.

CATCHER

Curt Casali, CIN at MIL ($3,500): With a lefty on the mound Casali should be in the lineup with a stout .423 OBP and six extra-base hits in 52 plate appearances. Gio Gonzalez is having trouble putting together solid outings and doesn't have a quality start in five of his last six. His .342 wOBA allowed to righties is also an issue.

FIRST BASE

Josh Bell, PIT vs. KC ($4,300): Bell's on a nice run against righty arms with a .447 OBP in his last 76 plate appearances to go with a .337 wOBA for the season. Heath Fillmyer has allowed 10 runs in his last two starts and has a 5.23 xFIP against lefty bats.

SECOND BASE

Jason Kipnis, CLE vs. CWS ($4,200): While his teammates cost more, Kipnis has been Cleveland's best hitter against righties in the last month (72 PA) with a .431 OBP and .283 ISO. Combine that with possibly the worst starter on the slate in Dylan Covey and it's a perfect match. Covey returned to the rotation last week and gave up six hits and five runs and that's how it's gone for most of the season with a 5.64 ERA.

THIRD BASE

Justin Turner, LAD vs. COL ($4,900): If you have the money, Turner's in a great spot with his .232 ISO and .443 wOBA ready to shine through against a southpaw. Tyler Anderson's fallen off in the second half of the season, allowing multiple runs every time on the mound and it doesn't help that Turner has a career 13-of-26 mark against him.

SHORTSTOP

Xander Bogaerts, BOS at NYY ($4,600): Sometimes it's hard not to use Bogaerts when his price is in this range. He's been great against righty arms all year with a .255 ISO and .379 wOBA, and while he's struggled against Luis Severino over the years, that could change. Severino hasn't pitched well since early July and gave up four runs and seven hits when he faced the Red Sox last month.

OUTFIELD

Michael Brantley, CLE vs. CWS ($5,300): Any Cleveland lefty is worth a look and Brantley is one of the better ones with a .188 ISO and .377 wOBA against righties. Covey could get crushed in this matchup with a .350 wOBA allowed and 4.88 xFIP against lefties.

Cedric Mullins, BAL vs. TOR ($4,200): There aren't many players to back on Baltimore, but with Marco Estrada on the mound, someone has to be used. Mullins has at least been respectable against righties with a .360 OBP and 12 extra-base hits in 101 plate appearances. Estrada was moved up in the rotation because he was lit up last start and only made it 2.2 innings. His 5.55 xFIP against lefty bats doesn't help much, either.

Alex Gordon, KC at PIT ($3,900): In step with the rest of the Royals, Gordon has gotten on base in the last 14 games and now has a .334 wOBA against righty hurlers. Chris Archer continues to struggle with the Pirates, giving up 14 runs and five homers in his last four starts to go with a .353 wOBA allowed to lefties.
