DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

There aren't any solid, go-to pitchers to use in Wednesday night's slate, but that also means there are plenty of arms to go against. I went against a couple that are giving up runs for fun and based my lineup around that with some favored arms to round out the lineup.

PITCHER

Jameson Taillon, PIT vs. CIN ($9,900): Taillon burned me earlier in the season, but he's shown more consistency and has hit 22 fantasy points in his last three starts mostly due to 23 strikeouts. He has another workable matchup against a Reds team he's seen three times, totaling 21 strikeouts in those performances. The Reds have iffy numbers against righties since the All-Star break with a 22.7 K% and .304 wOBA.

GPP Fade: Luis Severino, NYY at OAK ($11,900): Severino is maintaining fantasy value on strikeouts alone as he's given up home runs (and multiple runs) in nine of his last 10 starts. Even with strikeouts, his upside has been capped around 25 fantasy points. Oakland is rocking with a .218 ISO, but also a lower 20.8 K% against righties since the break.

Cheap GPP Consideration: Jhoulys Chacin, MIL vs. CHC ($8,000): Chacin already carved up the Cubs, going for 36.8 fantasy points from seven innings and 10 Ks when they met three weeks ago. That upside is reason enough to roll with Chacin and he hasn't been shelled in his last five so the solid floor helps. The Cubs aren't terrible against righty arms, but their .317 wOBA in the last month is subpar.

CATCHER

Mike Zunino, SEA vs. BAL ($3,100): Zunino is a home run play and that's about all he provides as a cheap catcher. Sometimes that's good enough with a .225 ISO from 13 homers and nine doubles against righties this year. On the mound, Andrew Cashner has given up multiple homers in two of his last three outings and has a .359 wOBA allowed to righties.

FIRST BASE

Ji-Man Choi, TB at TOR ($3,900): With a righty pitching, Choi hopes to improve his .244 ISO and 18 extra-base hits (6 HR) in only 127 at-bats. Aaron Sanchez should help as he's struggled immensely in recent outings, giving up 18 hits and 11 runs in his last two with most of that to lefties seen in a .394 wOBA allowed.

SECOND BASE

Adam Frazier, PIT vs. CIN ($4,700): Any of the Pirates can be used in this game with Homer Bailey pitching as he's given up 17 hits and nine runs in two starts against Pittsburgh earlier this year. Frazier shouldn't have problems getting on base with a .361 wOBA against righties, which goes well with Bailey's .390 wOBA allowed to lefties.

THIRD BASE

Matt Davidson, CWS vs. DET ($4,100): Davidson isn't as consistent against righty arms, but the power is there with a .217 ISO and 6-for-15 career line that includes two home runs against Jordan Zimmermann. One of those came a couple months ago and Zimmermann is giving up homers to everyone with a 1.79 HR/9 against righties, which is only slightly better than his 1.76 HR/9 against lefties.

SHORTSTOP

Tim Beckham, BAL at SEA ($3,400): Beckham's overall numbers don't stand out, but he's been great since the break with a .357 OBP against righties. Conveniently, Mike Leake has been worse against righty bats with a .345 wOBA allowed in addition to 18 hits and 11 runs given up in his last two outings.

OUTFIELD

Gregory Polanco, PIT vs. CIN ($5,200): Bailey's 1-13 record is equally as bad as his 2.39 HR/9 against lefty bats and that's where Polanco comes in. He's crushing with three homers in the last nine games to go with a .270 ISO on the season against righty hurlers. Bailey has given up five home runs in his last three starts and gave up one to Polanco earlier in the year.

Daniel Palka, CWS vs. DET ($4,200): Palka is another White Sox bat that homered against Zimmermann and that came only a week ago. Zimmermann's had major issues with the Sox this season, giving up 21 runs in four starts and that includes 17 hits and 11 runs in the last two. Palka has 19 homers and a .265 ISO against righties and that will come into play again with Zimmermann on the mound.

Brandon Lowe, TB at TOR ($3,200): Lowe is probably too popular at this point due to production at a cheap price. He's provided a nice bat for the Rays with a hit in six of his last seven starts to go with a .377 OBP against righty arms. Sanchez has struggled all season against lefties and a 6.18 xFIP won't get better against a surprisingly hot-hitting Tampa lineup.
