Yahoo DFS Hockey: Monday's Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Hockey series.

There's a lone game in the NHL on Monday with the Rangers hosting the Oilers at 7 p.m. EDT. New York is playing its second game in consecutive days, whereas Edmonton is playing the final leg of a four-game road trip following the holiday break. The Oilers have lost each of those first three contests.

It's worth noting there are enough values in the player pool to bank on bounce-back showings from Connor McDavid ($38) and Leon Draisaitl ($35) without crippling the rest of your lineup.

All statistics from Natural Stat Trick and Hockey Reference.

Picks

Alexandar Georgiev, NYR vs. EDM ($27): This is a reasonable salary to take a flier on Georgiev holding the Oilers in check. As noted, Edmonton hasn't been sharp out of the break, but the Oilers have also scored nine goals and two of the three losses were in overtime. Still, the Rangers rank fifth best in goals against and penalty-kill percentage, and Georgiev has posted a .931 save percentage and 2,00 GAA through his past six starts.

Adam Fox, NYR vs. EDM ($25): Ranking third in points per 60 minutes among all regular blueliners dating back to last season, Fox offers plenty of upside and could fly slightly under the radar Monday. Edmonton has also allowed a power-play goal in each of the past three games.

Zach Hyman and Jesse Puljujarvi, EDM at NYR ($19/$17): There's cap space to load up Connor McDavid ($38) and his two projected wingers Monday. While the trio hasn't had a lot of success combining for just 2.83 goals per 60 minutes, they have generated an impressive 16.4 high-danger scoring chances per 60, and there's likely positive regression ahead of their combined 7.0 shooting percentage.

Tyson Barrie, EDM at NYR ($17): Just below the previously noted Adam Fox ($25) is Barrie. The Edmonton power-play quarterback ranks sixth in points per 60 minutes among regular blueliners over the past two seasons. He's an affordable addition to an Oilers stack, and he's also missed the scoresheet in three straight, so statistical correction could be ahead.

Alexis Lafreniere, NYR vs. EDM ($10): A minimum-salary flier, Lafreniere climbed into a second-line role and logged 17:43 of ice time Sunday against the Lightning. He took advantage of the promotion to the tune of four shot attempts and was on the ice for six high-danger scoring chances, including generating one of his own.

Pans

Ryan Strome, NYR vs. EDM ($17): With Artemi Panarin ($31) out of the lineup, Strome loses his winger and significant fantasy value. The duo have clicked for a high-end 5.17 goals per 60 minutes and 70.4 goals for percentage over the past three years, and Strome sports 3.06 and 41.7 marks when playing without Panarin.
