Travis Bazzana

22-Year-Old Second Baseman2B
Cleveland Guardians A+
2025 Fantasy Outlook
The first-overall pick in 2024, Bazzana may be held to an unreasonable standard just due to the fact he was the first pick in what may end up being a below-average draft class. The only second baseman to ever be selected first overall in the draft, Bazzana hails from Australia and put up cartoonish numbers as an amateur in the West Coast League, Cape Cod League and three seasons of Pac-12 play. He slashed .238/.369/.396 with three home runs, five steals, a 25.4 percent strikeout rate and a 69.3 percent contact rate in 27 games for High-A Lake County. Bazzana's 24.2 percent hard-hit rate was mediocre, given his pedigree and the level he was at, and at best, he could develop plus power, almost all of which will go to the pull side. His hit tool is supposed to be the carrying tool, but it wasn't airtight at High-A, which was a fair level assignment. Bazzana is a plus runner, which gives fantasy managers another path to value, but if he's not at least a plus hitter with above-average power, he'll go down as a disappointment. Brayan Rocchio's late-season improvements will allow Cleveland to keep Bazzana in the minors until he forces the issue, which may not be until 2026. Read Past Outlooks

Receives $8.95 million bonus

July 19, 2024
Bazzana agreed Friday with the Guardians on a contract that includes an $8.95 million signing bonus, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The first overall selection in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft, Bazzana's signing bonus of $8.95 million is $300,000 less than the $9.25 million No. 2 overall pick Chase Burns received and well under the assigned $10.57 million slot value for the top pick. Bazzana is a lefty-hitting second baseman who could move through the Guardians' minor-league system quickly.
