Top NHL Picks Today: Best Bets, Odds & NHL Betting Insights

Carolina Hurricanes at Buffalo Sabres

The Hurricanes (14-5-2) wrap up a four-game road trip against the Sabres (8-9-4) at KeyBank Center at 1 p.m. ET on NHL Network.

The home team has picked up victories in eight consecutive meetings in this series. The last time the road team won was a 5-1 victory by the Hurricanes on Feb. 1, 2023. The Under is 3-1-1 in the past five meetings in Buffalo, too.

These teams already met once this season, two weeks ago in Raleigh. Carolina picked up a 6-3 win in that one, as the Hurricanes had six different scorers. Sebastian Aho opened the scoring, while Owen Power answered.

In the second period, Andrei Svechnikov posted a power-play goal, while Jesperi Kotkaniemi added an even-strength goal to make it 3-1 after 40 minutes. Eric Robinson opened the third period with his fourth goal, with helpers from Kotkaniemi and Charles-Alexis Legault.

At 4-1, Alex Tuch and Tage Thompson scored two quick goals in the third period to make things interesting, but Seth Jarvis and Legault tacked on empty-net goals to double up the Sabres. Pyotr Kochetkov kicked aside 19 of 22 shots to grab the victory, while Alex Lyon allowed four goals on 33 shots.

Brandon Bussi (5-1-0, 2.67 GAA, .896 SV%) is expected to start Sunday, with Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (2-2-1, 3.01 GAA, .880 SV%) in the nets for the home side.

Let's take the Sabres to maintain the home-team winning trend in this series, and we'll side with the Under, too.

Minnesota Wild at Winnipeg Jets

The Wild (11-7-4) and Jets (12-8-0) meet at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg at 4 p.m. ET.

Minnesota has posted a 4-4-1 record on the road this season, while Winnipeg is 6-4-0 at home. Filip Gustavsson (6-7-2, 2.79 GAA, .902 SV%, 2 SO) is expected to go for the Wild.

For the Jets, Eric Comrie (4-2-0, 2.84 GAA, .899 SV%) is projected to go for the home side with Connor Hellebuyck nursing a knee injury, and expected out for 4 to 6 weeks. Thomas Milic is the backup tendy, and he was 5-2-2 with a 2.14 GAA and .921 SV% in nine starts for Manitoba of the AHL, so it will be interesting to see if/when he gets the nod.

The Wild are dealing with their own ailments, as Vinnie Hinostroza has an undisclosed injury after being sidelined Friday against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The good news is that Nico Sturm is back from the Injured Reserve list after missing time with a back injury.

In that win over the Pens, Gustavsson stopped all 19 shots he faced in a 5-0 win, while Matt Boldy was good for two goals and an assist. Joel Eriksson Ek and Kirill Kaprizov each had a goal an assist apiece. Brock Faber added two assists with a plus-3 rating, while fellow rearguard had a helper, a plus-3 rating, four shots on goal and three blocks. Yakov Trenin delivered eight hits, too.

We have some interesting series trends. Winnipeg has picked up nine consecutive victories since April 11, 2023, while the Under has cashed in three of the past four meetings. However, with Comrie in there, rather than the two-time Vezina Trophy winner Hellebuyck, it should tip the scales in favor of the visitors.

The Under is 5-1 in the past six games for the Wild, but the Over has hit in five in a row for the Jets. The Over is 5-1 in Comrie's six starts. We'll shy away from the total, and just focus on the Wild.
