NHL DFS Picks: DraftKings Top Plays and Strategy for Thursday, January 22

Thursday has eight games scheduled, including four at 7 p.m. ET, two at 8 p.m. ET, one at 9 p.m. ET and one at 9:30 p.m. ET. All game lines and odds used below come courtesy of the DraftKings Sportsbook.

SLATE PREVIEW

Carolina (vs. Chicago), Edmonton (vs. Pittsburgh) and Minnesota (vs. Detroit) are the biggest favorites on the Moneyline. The Over/Under for the Stars-Blue Jackets, Sabres-Canadiens, Senators-Predators and Penguins-Oilers games is 6.5 goals. The Panthers-Jets contest is expected to yield 5.5 goals, and the other matchups anticipate 6.0 goals.

GOALIES

Jake Oettinger, DAL at CBJ ($8,000): Oettinger has a 2-2-0 record in his last four appearances despite stopping 87 of the 95 shots he has faced. Since the start of January, Columbus is tied for fourth in the NHL with 31.3 shots per game, but the team sits 20th in the league with 3.00 goals per game. Oettinger has lost his last two outings against the Blue Jackets but has solid numbers against the franchise overall, with a 9-2-1 record, a 2.24 GAA and a .911 save percentage.

Spencer Knight, CHI at CAR ($7,000): Knight doesn't have an easy matchup, but that could make him a solid contrarian choice for Thursday's slate. He has gone 4-2-1 with a 2.11 GAA and a .925 save percentage in his last seven outings. He is coming off a 32-save shutout win over Winnipeg on Monday. Knight has a 3-1-0 record while allowing only six goals on 126 shots in four previous meetings against the Hurricanes.

VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS

Mark Scheifele, WPG vs. FLA ($6,900): Scheifele has been hit or miss lately, posting five multipoint efforts, featuring five goals and eight assists, in his last eight appearances. He hasn't earned a point in three contests during that span, including two of his past three. Still, the potential for him to produce against a Florida team that has allowed 4.00 goals per game in January is high.

Vladimir Tarasenko, MIN vs. DET ($4.300): Tarasenko is riding a four-game point streak going into Thursday's outing against his former Detroit teammates. He has accounted for five goals (three on the power play), three assists and 15 shots on target during that span.

FORWARD LINE STACKS

Sabres at Canadiens

Tage Thompson (C - $8,100), Alex Tuch (W - $6,400), Josh Doan (W - $5,100)

Thompson has netted six goals on 29 shots and has 14 points in his last nine contests. He had a hat trick and added two assists in a 5-3 win over Montreal last Thursday. Tuch has five goals, nine points, 12 shots and nine blocks in his past nine appearances. He has four tallies and five helpers in his past 10 games against the Canadiens. Doan has provided five goals, 11 points and 14 shots in 11 games going into Thursday night's action.

Buffalo's top line should remain hot against Montreal on Thursday. They combined for five goals and three assists in a 5-3 win over the Canadiens on Jan. 15.

Predators vs. Senators

Ryan O'Reilly (C - $5,100), Filip Forsberg (W - $7,000), Luke Evangelista (W - $4,600)

O'Reilly has amassed five goals on 12 shots and five assists during his five-game point streak. He has three helpers on the power play during that stretch. Forsberg has produced three tallies and four assists across his three-game point spree. He has 16 shots on net, two power-play markers and two multipoint efforts over that span. Evangelista has earned one goal, six shots and three assists in his three-game point streak.

Nashville's top line has plenty of bang for the buck upside for Thursday's slate. Ottawa has allowed the eighth-most goals per game (3.64) in January.

DEFENSEMEN

Josh Morrissey, WPG vs. FLA ($5,900): Morrissey has amassed four goals, 12 points, 18 shots on net and 14 blocked shots in his past 11 outings. He has one marker and two helpers with the man advantage in his last four games.

Lane Hutson, MTL vs. BUF ($5,700): Hutson has accumulated one goal, six assists, five shots and five blocks across his three-game multipoint streak. He has amassed one goal and 11 points in six previous matchups against the Sabres, including one goal and two helpers in two games this campaign.
