DraftKings NHL: Tuesday Breakdown

DraftKings NHL: Tuesday Breakdown

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

There are nine games on the NHL schedule Tuesday after 7:00 p.m. EST. Below, you'll find a breakdown of the action and suggested options for crafting an effective lineup.

SLATE PREVIEW

There's no shortage of lopsided matchups to take advantage of, so the key will be choosing which heavy favorites to target. Among the most appealing options will be the Lightning at home against Ottawa and the Avalanche hosting the Islanders. Other teams to build around include the Golden Knights (vs. San Jose), Bruins (in Anaheim), Hurricanes (in Detroit) and Jets (vs. Montreal) and Oilers (in Philadelphia). The Oilers-Flyers game is tied with Devils-Blue Jackets and Flames-Wild for the highest over/under at 6.5 goals.

GOALIES

Andrei Vasilevskiy, TB vs. OTT ($8,500): Vasilevskiy has been consistent, though not spectacular, recently. He has allowed either two or three goals in each of his last seven starts en route to a 5-1-1 record over that stretch. Vasilevskiy's high floor on the heavily favored Lightning should make him worth paying up for against a Senators team that's scoring just 2.63 goals per game.

Darcy Kuemper, COL vs. NYI ($8,400): Colorado usually dominates with its offense, but against an offensively challenged but defensively stout opponent like the Islanders, the Avs can simply play keep away and cruise to a lower-scoring yet convincing victory. If that's how this game unfolds, Colorado's netminder of choice should find success against an Islanders offense that's averaging just 2.53 goals per game. Kuemper is the team's top option in net and boasts a 26-6-2 record, 2.46 GAA and .920 save percentage, while Pavel Francouz ($8,400) has been nearly identical on a per-game basis with a 9-2-0 record, 2.41 GAA and .921 save percentage.

Linus Ullmark, BOS at ANH ($8,000): It's been a rough go of it for the Ducks since the All-Star break, as Anaheim has gone 2-5-1 and comes into this one on a two-game losing streak in which it has been outscored 8-1. After watching Jeremy Swayman shut out the Kings on Monday, Ullmark should finish off this back-to-back set for the Bruins. The favorable matchup should help Ullmark improve on his 17-8-6 record, 2.76 GAA and .910 save percentage.

Samuel Montembeault, MON at WPG ($7,000): Montembeault's a high-risk, high-reward play at $7,000. His 3.53 GAA this season is scary, but the Canadiens have looked like a completely different team recently. Montreal has won five in a row, and Montembeault has been instrumental to that success, going 3-0-0 while stopping 92 of 96 shots for a .958 save percentage. At just $7,000, Montembeault could provide tremendous value if he can keep rolling against the middling Jets offense – 2.91 goals per game.

VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS

Jake DeBrusk, BOS at ANH ($3,100): DeBrusk's a can't-miss value play at just $3,100 given his recent success in a top-line role for Boston. His three goals and an assist Monday in Los Angeles extended DeBrusk's point streak to five games, and the enigmatic winger has a robust 7-2-9 line over that stretch. Expect DeBrusk's valuation to take a massive jump imminently.

Patrik Laine, CLS vs. NJ ($7,000): Even after being held off the scoresheet in each of the past two games, Laine's still averaging a goal per game over his last 13 and has added eight assists over that span. Adding to this productive stretch should be easy against a Devils team that will likely turn to struggling goalie Jon Gillies for this second leg of a back-to-back set. Gillies has allowed six goals in each of his last two outings, ballooning his GAA to 3.70 along with an .887 save percentage.

Elias Lindholm, CGY at MIN ($6,700): Lindholm has been a reliable fantasy option regardless of opponent recently, notching double-digit fantasy points in each of his past 12 games. That stretch included an eight-game goal streak and five assists over the other four games, and the one time Lindholm failed to get on the scoresheet, he still put six pucks on net. His all-situations role includes playing time on the top line at even strength in addition to usage on the power play and penalty kill, which will give Lindholm plenty of opportunities to accrue value in what's projected to be a high-scoring battle.

Pierre-Luc Dubois, WPG vs. MON ($5,100): Dubois has been sensational over the past two games, dishing out two assists in each while totaling 13 shots. He has been snakebitten of late, as only one of Dubois' 21 goals this season have come in the past eight games, but he won't be held off the board much longer if he keeps playing like he has in the past two games. A breakout performance could be forthcoming against a Canadiens team that's still allowing a league-high 3.74 goals per game overall despite its recent improvement.

Chandler Stephenson, VGK vs. SJ ($3,400): All eyes have been on Jack Eichel since he made his debut in Vegas, but Stephenson has also benefited from Eichel's arrival. With Eichel taking over as the top-line center, Stephenson has shifted to the wing, where he can focus more on offense. Stephenson's two goals and an assist over the past three games suggest that change is working, and his 14-27-41 line in 50 games is quite productive for a player who can be had for just $3,400.

FORWARD LINE STACKS

Hurricanes at Red Wings

Sebastian Aho (C - $8,400), Andrei Svechnikov (W - $7,600), Teuvo Teravainen (W - $6,700)

Carolina's top line doesn't come cheap, but the team's top three point scorers have been tremendous of late and should continue their stellar play against a Red Wings team that's giving up 3.58 goals per game. Aho leads the Hurricanes in both goals and points thanks to a 23-32-55 line over 49 games. Svechnikov's hot on his heels with a 22-28-50 line that includes a 13-15-28 output in 22 games since the calendar flipped to 2022. Teravainen has active streaks of three consecutive games with a goal and eight straight with a point, totaling a 4-7-11 line over the latter.

Oilers at Flyers

Connor McDavid (C - $8,900), Zach Hyman (W - $5,200), Warren Foegele (W - $2,500)

A Flyers team coming off just its third win in the last 22 games is unlikely to contain arguably the best player in the world, and McDavid's linemates should benefit from sharing the ice with him in this matchup. McDavid shares the league points lead with Jonathan Huberdeau at 75, but McDavid has played one fewer game (52) and has 10 more goals (28) than the Panthers winger. Hyman has a 5-3-8 line in his last seven games, and Foegele's at 2-3-5 in his last eight. Foegele may not even be the most appealing Oilers winger available at the minimum $2,500 valuation, as third-liner Derek Ryan's on a goal binge that has seen him light the lamp four times in the past two games.

Devils at Blue Jackets

Nico Hischier (C - $4,500), Jesper Bratt (W - $5,000), Pavel Zacha (W - $3,300)

New Jersey has scored 18 goals in the past three games, coinciding with Bratt's return from a two-game absence due to an upper-body injury. Bratt has been a leading figure in this offensive outburst, posting multiple points in each of his three games back for a 5-2-7 line. That production boosted his season line to 19-31-50 in 48 games. Hischier's hot streak dates abc a bit further, as he has a 6-5-11 line in his last eight games. Zacha's had a down year after leading the team in both goals and points last season, but he's starting to stir offensively with six points in his last seven games. This trio should provide excellent bang for the buck against a Blue Jackets team that's surrendering 3.62 goals per game – second-most after Montreal.

DEFENSEMEN

Mikhail Sergachev, TB vs. OTT ($5,000): Sergachev has been a nice source of value for a while now, with 9.7 or more fantasy points in 10 of his last 11 games. He has three games with at least five shots and three with at least four blocks over that stretch to go with eight assists, so Sergachev has been contributing in a variety of ways. The versatile Russian's a high-floor option at $5,000 against a Senators team that's been among the 10 most generous to defensemen in fantasy.

Devon Toews, COL vs. NYI ($4,600): Toews will be motivated to perform against the team that foolishly traded him away prior to last season. He subsequently developed into one of the league's premier two-way blueliners, and Toews' 9-30-39 line in 42 games is excellent for a player that can be had for only $4,600. While the Islanders have been stingy against defensemen, Toews is too good a value to pass up here.

Jeff Petry, MON at WPG ($4,200): Whether he's trying to build up his value in hopes of a trade or has accepted his fate on a poor Canadiens team, Petry has noticeably picked up his level after a disastrous start to the season. He's back to being an impactful two-way force, with a 2-3-5 line, 11 shots and 17 blocked shots in his past six games. His streak of four consecutive 40-point seasons will still almost certainly come to an end, but Petry still presents some buy-low appeal here given his recent form.

Rasmus Ristolainen, PHI vs. EDM ($3,800): Ristolainen's another player who could be moved at the trade deadline and seems to be motivated by that possibility. The hulking defenseman has a pair of assists to go with 10 shots and eight blocked shots in his last four games, as Ristolainen's hoping to earn a ticket to a team that will give him his first playoff appearance. With offense expected to be plentiful in this one, he's a low-risk, high-reward play at $3,800.
