DraftKings NHL: Sunday Breakdown

DraftKings NHL: Sunday Breakdown

This article is part of our DraftKings NHL series.

SLATE PREVIEW

The featured contests at DraftKings consist of all three Sunday games, and it's a unique slate. Buffalo is the only team not playing the second leg of a back-to-back set, and each of the other five clubs will all travel following their Saturday contests.

The Sabres-Panthers bout is listed as the highest over/under total, whereas Carolina is the largest favorite on the docket. Additionally, the Coyotes are receiving chalk on home ice over Edmonton.

GOALIES

While James Reimer ($8,000) has allowed at least three goals in each of his past six starts, this is still a juicy matchup and the price is manageable. Detroit has scored just 2.35 goals per hour this season, and the Red Wings rank eighth last in Corsi For percentage - while Carolina is first.

With Edmonton playing its fourth consecutive road game and third in four nights, Darcy Kuemper ($7,800) is definitely an option. He's won nine of 15 starts with a .935 save percentage, 1.93 GAA and two shutouts, and the Coyotes have also limited opponents to just 1.71 goals per 60 minutes at five-on-five on home ice - third-fewest in the league.

Carter Hutton ($7,000) has lost six consecutive games and allowed 14 goals through his latest three defeats. It's been an interesting turn of fate after the second-year Sabre won his first six starts of the season with a 1.65 GAA and .943 save percentage. Hutton should settle somewhere in between moving forward. But even as the only team not in a back-to-back set, Buffalo is likely in tough against the Panthers.

VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS

Jack Eichel ($6,900) has produced double-digit DraftKings points in each of his past six outings and totaled six tallies, three helpers and 25 shots during this surge. He's also scored an impressive 21 points - including 10 goals - through his seven multi-point showings to highlight his contest-winning upside.

Clayton Keller ($4,900) snapped a four-game point drought with an assist during Saturday's win, and the third-year forward will look to build upon the helper Sunday. He's recorded a respectable 2.09 points per hour this season, and the Oilers are in the noted tough schedule spot.

The points continue to pile up for rookie Martin Necas ($3,300), but his salary doesn't climb in accordance. With Detroit allowing the most goals per 60 minutes in the league, look for Necas to have a number of chances to reward on his price and build on his impressive 3.03 points per hour.

FORWARD LINE STACKS

Sticking with the heavy lean to Carolina, its best offensive line recorded a tally and five helpers during Saturday's win to improve to an elite 6.85 goals per hour for the campaign. Sebastian Aho ($6,800), Andrei Svechnikov ($6,200) and Teuvo Teravainen ($5,900) skate together in all situations and draw the noted soft matchup.

After failing to mark the scoresheet against the Hurricanes on Saturday, Aleksander Barokov ($7,700), Jonathan Huberdeau ($7,200) and Evgenii Dadonov ($6,500) are ripe bounce-back candidates. They've clicked for 6.65 goals and 17.24 high-danger scoring chances per 60 minutes this season.

The points continue to pile up for Connor McDavid ($8,500), Leon Draisaitl ($8,000) and Zack Kassian ($4,700), as the trio has now combined for 16 goals and 28 assists through their past seven contests. Just note the cap hit is high, and Arizona has surrendered the second fewest five-on-five goals per hour in the league on home ice.

DEFENSEMEN

The price is steep for Dougie Hamilton ($6,800), but it's hard to overlook his consistency and high-end numbers. He's marked the scoresheet in seven of the past eight games for four goals, five assists and 36 shots to improve to an elite 2.81 points and 16.4 shot attempts per hour this season. A date with the Red Wings sweetens the deal.

Even with a three-game pointless streak, Keith Yandle's ($5,000) 1.9 points per 60 minutes ranks eighth among all regular defensemen over the past three years. Additionally, the Sabres are free falling with a 1-7-2 record and 3.46 goals against per hour over their past 10 contests.

It's been a season of offensive highs and lows for Oscar Klefbom ($6,000). However, he's remained a rock-solid DraftKings option through his willingness to block shots, including earning the bonus for the category in six of the past seven games. Obviously, his 17 points and 56 shots through 25 games are also solid marks.

Offense has been hard to come by for Oliver Ekman-Larsson ($4,400), as he's been limited to just two helpers through the past 13 games. However, his salary is down as a result, and the Oilers could be ripe for a letdown showing after beating Vegas on Saturday. The 28-year-old veteran also continues to log huge minutes with 24:26, including 2:51 on the power play.

A lone bright spot for the Red Wings of late, Filip Hronek ($4,200) has proven capable of contributing offense at the highest level. He ranks 24th in points per 60 minutes among regular defensemen over the past two years at 1.5, and Hurricanes' starter James Reimer ($8,000) has looked shaky. Add Hronek's significant role for Detroit - with 22:50 and 2:47 on the power play - and he's worth considering.
