PGA TOUR STATS: St. Jude Classic
Each week we'll list the statistical breakdown of the upcoming PGA Tour event. Below are the results of recent tournaments, including last week's Memorial Tournament, and the top finishers from last year's St. Jude Classic.
The results grid was reduced for easier reading, starting with the Masters. However, the AVERAGE statistics at the bottom of the grid reflect data from completed 2012 tournaments.

Last Week's Memorial Tournament
Tiger Woods added another clip in his highlight reel with a game-clincher flop shot that slowly ambled into the cup for a birdie at the par-3 16th hole. He added an insurance birdie at the 72nd hole for the two-shot win -- his 73rd PGA Tour title to tie host Jack Nicklaus.
Woods' stats show very good ball striking, a No. 1 ranking in GIR, having hit 53 of 72 greens (73.6 percent), and he had "strategic putting," that is, he was sinking pars and birdies when they were dearly needed. He had six bogeys, which is average for the winners in all PGA Tour events to date. Woods despises double bogies (he had two), so we can expect he'll erase those PDQ.
If the course could talk it would claim the win. Average scores per round as follows:
Round 1: 73.275
Round 2: 73.902
Round 3: 74.324
Round 4: 73.45
The aggregate total for the field is 6.951 strokes over par.

The last two years at the St. Jude the winner came from playoffs. Sweden's Robert Karlsson, who had eight consecutive rounds in the 60s in those years, was the loser in both. He's trying again this week.
Karlsson has 11 European Tour titles, including his 2010 season-ending win at the Dubai World Championship, similar to the PGA Tour Championship. Keep him in mind when constructing your roster for the majors, the WGC events and some PGA Tour stops.
David Toms, a two-time winner here, missed the cut in 2011 for the first time since 1984, a span of 16 years. He's back this year with a pretty good number of players tuning up for next week's U.S. Open.
One of those is Rory McIlroy who, in 2010, shot 69-66-72-71 for 2-under. After three consecutive missed cuts recently, McIroy will try to right the ship for defending his U.S. Open title.
Attributes needed are ball striking, GIR, scrambling, bogey avoidance and par-4 scoring.
Last year's Low Rounds of the Day:
Round 1 - 5-under 65, David Mathis
Round 2 - 5-under 65, Robert Karlsson, Harrison Frazar, Fredrik Jacobson, Tim Herron, Andres Gonzales
Round 3 - 6-under 64, Frazar, Retief Goosen
Round 4 - 6-under 64, Camilo Villegas, Spencer Levin
Last Five Winners:
2011 – Harrison Frazar, 13-under
2010 - Lee Westwood, 10-under
2009 – Brian Gay, 18-under
2008 – Justin Leonard, 4-under
2007 – Woody Austin, 13-under
Those above not in the 2012 field: Mathis, Gonzales, Goosen and Westwood.
